Agreed. During the debates, Gingrich answered questions directly and definitely and shot back at the moderators with their sometimes loaded questions.
Meanwhile, Santorum had this demeanor:

Only one deer in the headline look during the debates and that was Newt in the Florida Debate when Romney (of all people) shocked Newt out of his mind about him owning Freddie/Fannie stock in his portfolio. That was the EXACT moment Newt lost the nomination. Talk about a huge embarrassment. Thank God we still had Santorum to get behind.
