Emos > Jugaloos > Muslims

Though it was really hard deciding on that last inequality.

I know there are subtle differences between the goths and the emos, but I like to lump them together because it annoys both groups.

Want to feel old?! My son and his friends were listening to rad “retro”. It was music from the 80’s. I said it was great (at least for me) to be a teen/young adult in the 80’s. The only part of that generation they found hysterical was the hair... BIG hair. I showed them a picture of me in college... HYSTERICAL laughing. Teen brats!!

80s bands like the Cure and Depeche Mode were largely the genesis of Emo.

The Emo kids South Park episodes are a riot.

It is difficult on a kid not being accepted by the “in” crowd. Back in my day, there was a girls’ social club in our school called, unfortunately and shortsightedly, “The Gay Teens”. Of course, us poor kids from the country grammar schools came down to the consolidated high school, and the majority of us weren’t invited to join “The Gay Teens”. Bwa-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha! Heaven help us if we dared get “out of our place”, too. Husband was in the “gay teen club” crowd, so doesn’t understand my struggles to deal with that whole scenario, even where it intrudes on my psyche in a teeny-weeny way to this day. (I don’t like to go back for “reunions”; his favorite thing in the whole world.)

That would be Brian Johnson. He was in the Math club, the Physics club, and the Latin club.

Judd Nenson and I had the same first name. His was John Bender. Kinda makes me wonder if that’s where Futurama got the name for the Robot, he’s a criminal too.

Teen DO have it harder today that when I was a kid (51 now).

I was at a parenting seminar and he talked about how adolescence is the time of life figuring out who you are, where you fit in, etc. 1500 years ago most kids had tribal lifestyles or VERY close families and there was no adolescence - they knew who they were.

He said when we were teens (40-50 year-olds) adolescence was about 13 to 18 years of age. Today it starts around 11 to 12 years old, with most researchers saying it extends to 27-28; with some even saying early thirties.

I guess these poor kids in Iraq found out that they didn’t fit in. I’ll have to remind my teenagers that as tough as being a kid growing up in suburbia is (no sarcasim - it IS tough), it could be worse!

are emos behaving themselves, not stealing or mugging or vandalizing, if so then they really ought to be low on the list of social phenomena to worry about at any official level. let churches preach the gospel to them.

I think every generation had groups of sort. Whether they were the ones with money, the brains, the jocks, the band geeks, the theater crowd, etc... The difference that I see today is that there are more groups available than when I was a teen. (to be fair, I attended a very small, Catholic high school so choices were very limited). The teen years are not a joy to everyone. (I’m still laughing about the Gay Teens!!)
