Why do you use these companies? I mean why not use an external harddrive so your data is private

The main reason for this type of backup is that it is off-site. If your house burns down, or is robbed etc, your main PC and your backups are both lost, unless you move backups off-site regularly, which is a lot of work.

The only “irreplaceable” data on my computer is pictures and I already burn them to DVDs and store them at work. I didn’t even trust Carbonite with that!

You can buy a 1 TB drive that fits into your shirt pocket for a hundred dollars or so. Back your stuff up and take it to work or some secure location, such as a safe deposit box.

no you unplug the hard drive, why would anyone want to use a external and keep the thing plugged ion is plain stupid just like using a company to see your files.

When you use these companies you have no clue who is looking at your files.
