I mean why not use an external harddrive?

Geographical separation. If your house is hit by a fire or tornado, it isn't going to matter that all your stuff is on an independent hard drive that was sitting next to your computer.

Yup. Last May, a lightning strike on our house, with the resulting power surge and fire, ended up destroying our backup along with our PCs.

HUH, you unplug the hard drive once you have back up files, pretty dumb if you leave the external still plugged in and you deserve to lose everything.

It’s pretty simple to back up files on your external hard drive, UNPLUG IT, then you have privacy and no one gets to see your files

Using a company , a,liberal one and letting them back YOUR files up and then LETTING them see YOUR files is plain stupid.
