Black and Latino students across the United States are far more likely to be suspended than white students - and far less likely to have access to rigorous college-prep courses, according to a sweeping study released on Tuesday by the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Civil Rights.
The trove of data, collected from 72,000 schools serving 85 percent of the nation's students, revealed tremendous disparities in the public school experiences of minority and white students.

That's because they are less disciplined coming into the schools. I imagine there is not a lot of self-discipline, therefore, someone needs to teach them. If they and their race-pimp politicians don't like it, they are going to have to live with the consequences.

Insufficient data... You can’t keep banging the minority drum without specifics. For what abusive actions, for how long, etc. I’d bet that they only looked at specific targets to make their statements. That is always the way it happens. I’d also bet that minorities were the most egregious instigators also - not that you would know here...

Just think, without a DOE, this sweeping study might not have been hatched. I suggest that the DOE is in the business of self justification.
While they might be right with the raw statistics, they neglected to consider the underlying crimes.
Iirc a closer look at this phenomenon revealed that murders committed by whites were more likely to be crimes of passion, which are not usually death penalty eligible crimes. Murders committed by blacks were more likely to be cold-blooded stranger murders, i.e. death penalty eligible crimes.
With these new stats about school suspensions, you can't know what's going on unless you break down the categories of suspensions. Was the kid suspended because he acted like a jerk? Or because he brought a knife to school?
You’re 100% correct. It may be a poorly written article but it seems the study focused solely on the results and not the causes. It makes sense to a person like Duncan to argue his case from that viewpoint.

You’re right; my children go to school with a bunch of minorities that are never disciplined (they get it at home - Indians, Orientals, Arabs). The only people getting disciplined are unruly whites (and rightly so).
It is impossible to obtain an education where a large number of “other minorities” are in the classroom - they are the worst environments filled with distractions as the hopeless pass time.

Well, according to the FBIs Uniform Crime Reports, black males, who comprise less than 6 percent of the population, committed over 50 percent of the murders in the USA from 1976 to 2005.
So it is not surprising that this same demographic is suspended from school more often than other less crime prone demographics.
What is revealing about this article, is that it is reported by the Corrupt Liberal Media without any perspectives other than white racism must be the cause of these suspensions and school disciplinings.
The operative word in the “Corrupt Liberal Media” is “corrupt”

As one who was there when the bussing began our Jr High was turned upside down from the infusion of yute from across town. A few wanted to study but the rest only wanted to disrupt the classes. Or start fights. And woe be unto those that got in the way of the stampede when the lunch bell rang.
and does it state that in the schools where my kids have gone that the blacks are the ones who for the most part are causing the trouble, very disrespectful and are causing trouble.
This is not about color this is about the black community and the problems they have.

no they go to the black colleges which discriminate against whites and Asians, I’m sure those same blacks can go there, sit there, listen to I pods all day and leave with a degree.
Then they can go to a hospital, get a job as a nurse etc and then when the hospital finds that the degree was useless, the person has no clue what they’re doing they can’t be fired

They have been screaming this crap for 40 years or more.
They get disciplined more in schools for the same reason there are more of them in prison. They are the ones breaking the rules.

Having seen and heard from my kids then I can honestly say the black community has massive problems .
Even my kids and their friends have said the biggest trouble makers in their schools are the blacks, the most likely who will be in trouble is mostly blacks and who just mess about and who think school is a joke are mostly blacks.
That is racist to the left wing kooks out there but facts are facts and their social issues have caused nothing but more trouble and to think there are now some on our side saying social issues should be ignored so long as there is money in the pockets.

I was there, too. Before bussing, nothing every happened at our school After bussing, they locked us in our classrooms and pulled down those big metal gates in the hallways and you didn't want to get caught in the stairwells. Yes, totally against fire rules but it was to keep down the violence. Big surprise, my family moved the following year.
What do you expect when "acting white" is a pejorative in black and latino societies?

In the early 1970s’ blacks were bussed to my elementary school. One black boy would continually molest me and other second graders by rubbing his crotch against our backsides. He would push us down on the playground and lay on top of us- no doubt in simulation of what he saw at home. Another boy would expose himself to everyone and anyone. Not much could be done about it. Oh, and keep your lunch close by. They would steal your lunch and eat it in the coat closet and you would be without.
Also, the entire ‘remedial class’ was black. I was in gifted and talented classes - we were given books to read and left alone while the teacher’s attention was given to the ‘remedial’ students for entire classes.

Then again, maybe male students just do more things that call for discipline than female students.

I think this study should be taken at face value. The public education system clearly is irremediably racist and should be abolished. Vouchers are the only practicable remedy.
C’mon folks. This is just part of the MSM’s Obama support agenda.
Since minority children (except, I bet, for Asians...) face more discipline, this must STILL be a racist country - Re-elect Obama and assuage your racist guilt...
