Too Little, Too Late for Rush Limbaugh? Republican Allies and Advertisers Continue To Desert Host Despite Apology

Conservative radio host slammed Georgetown University's Sandra Fluke Seven advertisers responded by dropping their ads on his show

By MEGHAN KENEALLY 5th March 2012

Newt Gingrich was the latest Republican presidential candidate to distance himself from the controversial radio commentator Rush Limbaugh following his tirade against a law student that he deemed a 'slut'. Appearing on a Sunday morning news program, Mr Gingrich said that it was 'silly' to suggest that Mr Limbaugh speaks on behalf of the entire Republican party, and that he glad that Mr Limbaugh issued an apology to Sandra Fluke, the woman at the heart of the debate.

Following her appearance at a hearing in support of President Obama's quest to have all employers pay for birth control through health insurance policies, Mr Limbaugh called the 30-year-old Ms Fluke a 'prostitute' and suggested that she could make enough money to pay for her birth control by posting videos of herself having sex online.

Cardinal Timothy Dolan, Archbishop of New York and a fierce opponent of Mr Obama's policy, criticised Mr Limbaugh's pugnacious comments and said: 'Whatever we do, and however strongly we feel, we do it charitably, we do it civilly.'

Rant: Rush Limbaugh, 61, left called Sandra Fluke, right, a student at Catholic college Georgetown University, a 'slut' for saying religious institutions should cover birth control under health insurance Mr Gingrich's fellow candidates already responded, with each varying in their severity. Rick Santorum said that the comments were 'absurd' and Ron Paul said that they were 'crude'. Mitt Romney tried to tactfully avoid the issue at several campaign events before finally saying Mr Limbaugh's remarks were 'not the language I would have used'.

Absolute proof that the Republican party is the “go along to get along” party. They cherish political correctness and abide by the will of the minority.

They are not guilty of taking our freedoms away but RESPONSIBLE for letting that happen.

I heard one of the advertisers responses today. (I forget which one) It said something to the effect of if "this was any of our daughters". WTH? This is a thirty year old woman not a nineteen year old kid. If my 30 year old daughter was a left wing activist saying and doing this, I'd cheer Limbaugh on myself.

At 30, I had a child, a mortgage and a life. No one even questions this aspect either.

“he stupidly walked into this and should have known better”

No, he didn’t. He specifically pointed out that if she wants us to pay for her birth control, and if she needs $1,000/year, then that would buy an amount of condoms that leaves no doubt about her morals.

Being just a few years younger than Rush, I can understand why he didn’t anticipate the explosion: He didn’t realize that America is now a place where anyone who suggests ANY sexual restraint is appropriate gets attacked!

10 years ago, the same comments wouldn’t have raised very many eyebrows. The problem isn’t Rush, but a society that increasingly believes sex - any kind, and any amount - should be a government sponsored activity.

At a Baptist Bible study for teen girls, my daughter was the only one who asked why it was difficult to tell a guy no to sex. The study leader complained to us because, “She just doesn’t understand how hard it is to say no to a guy you care about!”

That was my daughter’s LAST appearance at that study - but in today’s American culture, the only sexual sin is saying no...

“I stand ready to donate monthly to keep him on air.”

Damn right! I’d cheerfully shell out for a monthly subscription to his show.

Oh wait. I already do. Rush without the advertising. Rush 24/7...

Me too. I might even resubscribe to his newsletter, and sip a case of Two if by Tea.

I’m fortunate enough to be able to listen to his show while working, except Mondays which are my day off. I will tune in today, because I’m expecting the non-apology “apology” was a head fake and today to be the payoff.

:) I said that on a different thread yesterday.

The ‘apology’ was announced Saturday late afternoon/evening. That is so out of character on several levels. I am looking for the punch line today.

Rush isn’t a Cardinal and Dolan isn’t a talk radio host. Each excels at what he does, but neither would survive one minute in the other’s field.

Frankly, Rush (had he ever been there) could tell Cardinal Dolan to clean up St. Patricks. It’s turned from a church into a circus. The last time I was there it was so appalling, I had to leave.

Phony scandal coordinated between the media, the White House, and Speaker Pelosi.

Much like the media coordinated the 2006 attacks on some gay Republicans calling it a “culture of corruption that rose to the top ranks of the Republican party”.

The media AND the DNC knew more sooner in the “email scandal” and CHOSE to sit on it to spring it as an October Surprise to blame the Republicans for supposedly “knowing” and “doing nothing”. Truth came out in the subsequent Congressional investigation.

Has the Catholic Church excommunicated Nancy Pelosi yet?

I’m getting sick and tired of “leaders” like the cardinal and Newt (come on Newt - you know better) retreating and attacking conservatives when they are SILENT concerning the venom coming from the left.
