Just when you may have thought the ongoing battle between the 99% and the 1% was dying down, it may have been reignited. A wealthy banker left a $1.33 tip on a $133 lunch at the True Food Kitchen restaurant in Newport Beach, California.

Once again people will jump to conclusions without all the facts. Maybe the waitress gave really crappy service. Insulting service can be rewarded by an insulting tip. In which case the bill and relative wealth of the patron are irrelevant.

Perhaps the waitress should work on improving the level of her service.

I’ll take this with a major grain of salt until I’m convinced it’s not a phony set up job by some OWS affiliated waitress.

So what does that mean for the Clintons who regularly left 0% on their western/upstate NY trips.

I call BS on this story. It's as manufactured as anything Nancy Pelosi says.

I left some a-hole a dollar tip because he delivered cold food, paid more attention to the young girls sitting behind us, and was on his cell phone at the water station rather than getting us a refill on our drinks.

The people that complain over this crap should really eat at restaurants with poor service more often to see why some of us tip so low.

Yahoo is becoming more and more pathetic with their political advocacy.

I have a friend who joked about things a lot.

This joke I found humorous. I wore a checked shirt one day. he said, “must be payday you wore your small checked shirt”.

Why should people get a tip as incentive for doing a job properly? If they are not willing to do the job, they should be fired.

If this story is at all true, and that is always in doubt from Yahoo, then I would imagine that the bankster's exact 1% tip was a result of OWS-type badgering he received either from the waitress or others staff. This was his payback.

Forget the 1% why don’t they do a story on how minorities tip? Just ask anyone in the service industry.

The waitress probably gave poor service and the jerk he was dining with had an axe to grind with his boss. That, or it’s a fake story to fan the class flames. If the story is actually true, it wouldn’t hurt the waitress to get a ‘real job’ as the one percenter suggests.

I am usually generous with tips even when the service is mediocre. I have only never left a tip once. The attitude of the current generation of servers is poor as they expect at least fifteen percent for their ‘hard work’ regardless of the service. It just goes along with people raised to believe that they ‘deserve’ something regardless of their own personal efforts. This may have something to do with many servers having useless arts/humanities/aa/womens/transgender studies degrees which were, at one time, rewarded in the workplace but with our financial shakeout, no longer are.

I once left $.02 on the table at an Applebees. I have yet to eat at another.......in going on nine years.

My two cents......."your service sucks."

One of the jobs I had when very young was waiter in a chain restaurant (that shall remain unnamed) but I still like the story my wife tells about her father. They received extremely rude and poor service from a waitress and for for a tip he left a penny and a note reading: “Every waitress deserves a tip. Here’s yours: Find a new profession”. It’s possible this guy is an inconsiderate jerk or the waitress may have needed similar sound advice.

I doubt any wealthy banker is in the 1%. You have to be at least a multi-millionare, I think.

Given that the tip is exactly 1% of the bill, I’d have to say there was poor service here, if this story is true.
