I would probably vote for Santorum in Michigan only just to kill the Mittmentum. Since Romney will win Arizona, it’ll probably be best to “keep the race going” in Palin-speak by having a split decision on Tuesday. But we need to get back to Newt on Super Tuesday big time.

Here are how the candidates rack up in terms of ELECTABILITY compared to previous candidates, including Ds and Rs, judging how they appeal to their base and to moderates (obviously their appeal tends not to carry to the other party’s base):

Mitt Romney = Bob Dole, John McCain, John Kerry, Michael Dukakis, Al Gore, Walter Mondale (unlikable, stiff, elitist candidate)

Rick Santorum = Christine O’Donnell, Sharon Angle, Pat Robertson, Jesse Jackson, Pat Buchanan (alienating holy roller candidate)

Newt Gingrich = Ronald Reagan, Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, JFK (articulate, inspiring “rock star” candidate)

From an unmentionable "USA" paper today:

In the poll, Obama lags the two leading Republican rivals in the 12 states likely to determine the outcome of a close race in November:

•Former Pennsylvania senator Rick Santorum tops Obama 50%-45% in the swing states. Nationwide, Santorum's lead narrows to 49%-46%.

•Former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney edges Obama 48%-46% in the swing states. Nationwide, they are tied at 47% each.

So nationally, Santorum beats Obama by 3 - right now - and he beats Obama by 5 points in swing states (you know, the states Obama must have).

Mitt beats Obama by 2 in swing states and he's even with Obama nationally. What are we to conclude by this?

The myth that Mitt is the only electable Republican is an Establishment ruse. Santorum can beat Obama, but then again, a ham sandwich will beat Obama.

I agree with your analogy. This fixation on a candidate who can only talk about moral specifics and has the outright belief that Government needs to be directly influenced by Christian Catholic doctrine, is almost scary.

Santorum sees his popularity as a mandate that his agenda is why he is leading. His arrogant, legalistic nature will only be intensified as he gains delegates. This man is potentially dangerous, who has proclaimed that he will govern from the religious pulpit.

The MSM will band together to stop Santorum, and the gullible, ignorant public will probably follow along. And one thing about Santorum, when he encounters severe opposition or gets caught in his frequent half-truths or outright lies, he gets angry and combative and I don't mean that in a classy, Statesman's sense.

By the time the MSM is done with him, he won't have too many fans left to overlook his many contradictions. Crossing over, just for the sole purpose to keep Romney from winning, is a Trojan Horse, counter psychology move by Santorum worshipers, to trick Newt supporters into giving the momentum to Santorum for Super Tuesday. That's all it is, and it will later doom Newt. I refuse to fall for it.

As of the latest polls I have been able to find, Newt is leading in one state on Super Tuesday - Georgia. He is third in most of the others.

What I meant to add to that was, I don’t see how he jumps that much on Super Tuesday without allowing Romney to run away with the nomination.
