Report: U.S. May Intervene in Syria
Arutz Sheva ^ | 25/2/12 | David Lev

A report Saturday said that the United States was planning to intervene militarily in Syria, with or without United Nations authorization, if the killing in the country continued. A senior American official quoted in the London-based Al-Sharq al-Awsat newspaper said that the action would be based on the UN intervention in Kosovo several years ago: Establishment of a beachhead and carving out an area that was off-limits to forces controlled by Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, where refugees could come to flee Assad's troops, and which could be used as aforward base to reduce Assad's hold on the country, and eventually remove him.

The official said the Red Cross was prepared to offer assistance to refugees in this scenario. Later, NATO forces based in Turkey would join in the effort to beat back Assad's troops. At some point, the U.S. will declare Syria closed to air traffic, a move that American officials believe could bring down a weakened Assad government, as it did in 1999, when Serbia surrendered control of Kosovo, after the UN failed to pass resolutions demanding an end to the violence in that region. There, too, similar to the situation in Syria, Russia opposed UN action, while China abstained from supporting the UN Security Council resolutions on Kosovo. And in a manner similar to the events in Kosovo, U.S. air power would be used to bomb strategic assets supporting Assad.

Our nation is falling apart, we’re broke, we don’t make things anymore and we’re falling behind the rest of the world in almost every measure.

So we’re going to start another war???

Isn’t this what happened to Rome?

The enemy of my enemy is my friend. Syria and Iran both hate Israel and support Hezbollah. Syria and Iran are playing the long game and will sort out their differences after Israel is gone. As for Bolton he knows more about these things than the both of us.

Wrongly??? You do realize that Syria and Iran have been allies for many years now right? The leadership of the country is NOT Sunni. The Sunni’s are the ones fighting against Assad’s regime. There are reports Iran has sent troops to Syria and the reason the Iranian warships entered the Med a few days ago was ferrying supplies to Assad.

Rome also had foreign mercenaries fighting its wars for it, so when the mercenaries decided they wanted more respect, they went on strike. Also, Rome first stopped being a Republic and became a hereditary dictatorship, and stopped giving its imperial provinces a say in how they were governed. The provinces became rebellious, especially Judaea and Germany, not to mention a large island to the North of Gaul. Since Rome stopped growing its own wheat in Italy in favor of grapes, when there was trouble in its provinces, people starved. Oh, and there was also the welfare state and rioting plebs.

If gas is at $50 a gallon, I don’t think it will matter any more if Obama is reelected. The damage will probably be irreperable, and radiate out to food prices, manufactured goods, currency exchanges and airline tickets. Start growing your own food in you back yard. Get a gun and a small annoying dog (burglar alarm, doesn’t eat much) to defend it. Buy gold.

Unfortunately, when we ignore that part of the world, it seems to come to our doorstep. I’d rather we fight them there...and my focus is always primarily us. I’ve spent many years keeping that focus and being over there at the “pointy end”.

So it seems to go. Ignore the world, it will burn a path of destruction to your door.

Thus far, starting with Hitler and consistently thereafter throughout the last century and this one, every time anyone wants to do something to the Joooos!, they’ve ended up going after everyone. For example, El Sayyid Nossair shot Kahane, and was part of a conspiracy to blow up New York, and so on. Now Iran wants to blow up Israel, but don’t believe for a second that they aren’t after the US, or that the MB is not after world domination. So stick with us. We will inevitably have the same enemies, only they’ll always go after us first.
