Report: U.S. May Intervene in Syria
Arutz Sheva ^ | 25/2/12 | David Lev

A report Saturday said that the United States was planning to intervene militarily in Syria, with or without United Nations authorization, if the killing in the country continued. A senior American official quoted in the London-based Al-Sharq al-Awsat newspaper said that the action would be based on the UN intervention in Kosovo several years ago: Establishment of a beachhead and carving out an area that was off-limits to forces controlled by Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, where refugees could come to flee Assad's troops, and which could be used as aforward base to reduce Assad's hold on the country, and eventually remove him.

The official said the Red Cross was prepared to offer assistance to refugees in this scenario. Later, NATO forces based in Turkey would join in the effort to beat back Assad's troops. At some point, the U.S. will declare Syria closed to air traffic, a move that American officials believe could bring down a weakened Assad government, as it did in 1999, when Serbia surrendered control of Kosovo, after the UN failed to pass resolutions demanding an end to the violence in that region. There, too, similar to the situation in Syria, Russia opposed UN action, while China abstained from supporting the UN Security Council resolutions on Kosovo. And in a manner similar to the events in Kosovo, U.S. air power would be used to bomb strategic assets supporting Assad.

It’s a good thing that Hussein, Hillary, and Joe Biden have so much foreign policy experience.

I wouldn’t have mentioned Joe Biden, but as I recall, that’s why the Dems put him on the ticket—because of his great foreign policy wisdom and experience, in case voters doubted how well a community organizer from Chicago would do in that area.

Wounded and cornered animals can lash out. Syria has chemical weapons and if attacked could employ them.

Perhaps Assad, if he's even really in control, would consider attacking Israel in a desperate bid to unit Syria people against an outside enemy.

It is so good to know that the Iranian/Syria self defense treaty isn’t going to get in the way of “helping”.

Obama must have been told that Assad got along good with Christians.

He can’t have that.

American officials do not believe that Russia or China will change their stance. But, the official said in the interview, American analysts believe that either or both countries could send their troops in as peacekeepers during a later stage of the action. Later stage????????what about the initial stage when Russia AND China are involved? Does 0bammy think he will win THAT?

If we’re to intervene in opposition to Assad, we’ll be intervening in support of the wrong side.

Again.

Any intervention by the US in a muslim country will only favor the Muslim Brotherhood at the American taxpayer’s expense.

You are absolutely correct! Let them kill each other! Murder is the first sacrament of Islam - and we are going to put our precious children in the middle of another Islamic war? Unbelievable!!!

The only time Obama’s approval ratings have had a jump in the past few years was when he sent in the SEALs to kill Osama bin Laden. Now Obama must find another evil Muslim bad guy like Assad to fight against, hoping the Syrian dictator lasts until October so Obama can kill him then and reap the benefits on election day.

However, since our entry into the Syrian revolution would create even more turmoil in the Middle East, gasoline prices would probably rise to about $50 a gallon by October, so Obama’s ploy might not work.
