Kinda nice to see somebody sticking it to Spain over sunken treasure for once. Still, the laws for maritime recovery are really tilted toward the state and away from the corporation doing the actual work.

There are always good questions about where the Spanish found their gold. During the 1700s they found gold in the Philippines, mined it, and shipped it EAST for transport to Europe. That was to avoid the Dutch, British, Indian, Thai and Chinese pirates who preyed on travelers and trade ships in those days if they dared use the Western route to Europe.

Even today the greatest trade in precious metals in Peru is silver, as it is in Bolivia, Mexico, the US South West and a large number of other former Spanish possessions.

The gold on this ship is definitely the property of Spain according to international law and that is all that counts.

This is why smart gold hunters don't tell anybody about their discoveries.

So now the lawyers are going to get the silver. The salvage company will also probably start charging storage fees to be paid by the eventual winner.

Belongs to Pinoys, not Peruvians.
They can tell where it came from by analysis of the gold cuz it`s not 99% pure but has other minerals and metals in it.. Green gold is from Thailand, yellow gold from California, etc

Surely Spain owes us some money. It’s sitting at a USAF base and should stay there for the time being.

it's recovered from a Spanish warship .... Maritime law says anything on a warship belongs to the country which owns the ship and you shouldn't be desecrating the tombs of their sailors

the Supremo's have already ruled in Spain's favor on this one
