BREMERTON, Wash. - All available officers from multiple law enforcement agencies launched a massive manhunt for the person who shot and killed a Washington State Patrol trooper during a traffic stop early Thursday.
The trooper had stopped a pickup around 1 a.m. Thursday on Highway 16 near Gorst and radioed the location and license plate number, said Trooper Russ Winger.

Wash Ping...and prayers
Prayers for the officer and his family.
The last couple of weeks the cops have been heavily, and I mean heavily out on patrol in the Tacoma, Gig Harbor area. Seems like there’s one planted on every corner and junction just waiting for speeders or what ever they’re looking for. In my life, I have never seen anything like it.

If you are gonna do this sort of thing, you always want to either switch plates or use a stolen vehicle. The guy must have had a lot to hide.
But this is a serious tragedy. Of all the cops out there, I respect the WSP the most. It’s amazing this has to go through their mind every single time they walk up to a “questionable” vehicle. Especially at one in the morning. And a “bad” patrolman would just not have bothered to pull the guy over. It might be dangerous, after all.
Yesterday news from same town!
Odd coincidence?

Shooter still at large after abandoning his truck
We are about 20 miles from where this happened - I hope they catch the murdering bastard.
I haven’t had any dealings with them for many years but at one time, Florida Highway Patrol were top quality. My Sunday School teacher was one and he was a fine man.
When I was a little kid back in the early 1950s, I had to walk home from school, nearly 2 miles. Several times, state troopers stopped and gave me a ride home. Same thing happened to my Brothers and Sisters.
That is probably against the rules now.
SR16 still closed, I guess those coming into work in King/Pierce from Kitsap Co. will be taking US101 through Olympia or the Bremerton or Kingston ferry.
Why is this in breaking news?
Why create a special class of people?
As another poster pointed out, a child was shot yesterday near the same place. Was that breaking news?

State Troopers are usually the mellow safety guys/gals that do a lot more good for public safety than people know. I hope the catch the nut that shot the trooper and hang him.
Prayers up for the family, freinds and relatives. May God in HEaven comfort them in their grief and send His Peace to them, knowing they will see their loved one again some day in a far beeter place.
And may God in HEaven rest the soul to this brave officer who devoted himself and gave his life to defend nhis community and keep it safe.
I pray they catch the murderer soon and render unto him the justice he deserves...and ensure that individual never has a chance to kill or injure another citizen.
Why create a special class of people?
If it hasn't been posted before, then 'breaking news' makes some sense. If someone else posted the earlier story about a child being shot near the same place and didn't put that in breaking news, how does that affect what this poster considered to be 'breaking news'? Two different posters, two different decisions.
And just what 'special class of people' are you concerned about? Are you the posting police?
I saw SWAT heading to Kitsap Co as I was driving into Gig.
My singular bad experience with a WSP trooper was a little over a year ago, right after rotator cuff surgery.
I was driving home from the hospital and had this huge arm support system on my left arm. The cop was entering the freeway right next to me, braked to get behind me and turned on his blues immediately.
He pulled me over for not wearing a seat belt. I came very close to laughing in his face when he actually ticketed me.
My wife was in the car with me and she DID laugh.
His whole attitude was obviously napoleon syndrome from the git-go. The guy was like 5’5”. I remember thinking, at the time, “I thought the WSP had minimum height requirements.”
But other than that one guy, they are always nice and reasonable people, even when I get a ticket.
As one of the comments on the link says: We should copy Texas and use that express lane straight to the death chamber when this POS is captured and convicted.
Jeez!....How sickening!
