And I suppose they are trying to blame this on the police.

I call it poetic justice.

Dayum.

Whatever she did wrong - to get tazed - I bet she don’t do it again.

Given that she tried to run, sounds like she was guilty of the hit and run.

No sympathy.

A terrible tragedy for certain. However, the individual must assume responsibility for the consequences of a series of very poor decisions. Nobody forced her to flee an auto accident. Nobody force her to evade arrest since last September. Nobody forced her to attempt to flee police custody once she was arrested. The act of being tasered as fleeing suspect who has ignored a lawful order to stop is a direct consequence of her decision to ignore that lawful order and continue her attempt to flee lawful police custody.

She has nobody to blame but herself and I’m glad the officer administering the taser has been cleared of any wrong doing.

The woman is responsible for her actions, no question. If I was the officer that tased her, I wouldn't be proud of what I did. I don't really see any reason to tase her other than he was too fat or lazy to chase her down. To me the tase was unnecessary and the resulting death would weigh on me. Over kill, literally.

Why do we let fat out of shape people become cops??

Seriously? This girl needed tazed? This guy may have been cleared of wrongdoing, but Jesus really? you couldn’t cover the feet that speprated you with her without pulling a tazer

This dude, and the district which he lives are now going to face a wrongful death lawsuit that they are going to lose, and have to pay big time because this fat ass was too out of shape or too damned lazy or both to cover 3 feet.

Sorry to not cater to black and white arguments, but are Tasers really appropriate for use by a 220 lb. man against a 90-lb woman - and on a asphalt surface, no less? I mean do we no longer require cops to EVER pursue a suspect on foot? Are too many of them disabled-by-donuts to effect a proper pursuit? This guy has a belly like Santa Claus, but couldn’t he have pursued her for 20 feet? Do they have no training to withdraw use if suspect is on a hard surface, like mall tile, concrete or pavement? Again, sorry to be the only one to disagree that being strung out on pills and coke and running from a fat lazy cop means you deserve a death sentence.

Correction - he is 267 lbs! This grossly obese lazy cop should be tasered the next time he opens a Twinkie.

Lately it seems like the new penalty for leaving the scene of an accident or mouthing off to the cops is death.

She tested positive for oxycodone and cocaine. She looked in ill health in the “before” picture. It’s possible that contributed to the brain injury.

Facts of Life:

Bad things happen to bad people.
Good things happen to bad people.
Bad things happen to good people.
Good things happen to good people.

If this girl was not abusing drugs this “bad thing” would have never happened to her.

This girl was 5 feet in front of this cop. He’s 100 lbs overweight so I guess he figured, “why get sweaty with a run”? He was catching up to her. Just seems to me that this wasn’t so much “Excessive” as it was “lazy”.

SEMINOLE — One morning last week, the Florida Highway Patrol learned that a young woman had been involved in two hit-and-run crashes in less than an hour.

The woman had rear-ended two cars and fled both scenes. FHP Trooper Daniel Cole was sent to investigate.

she had cocaine and oxycodone in her system, the report states

http://privateinvesigations.blogspot.com/2012/02/danielle-maudsley-left-brain-dead-after.html

It didn’t take him long to find a suspect: 20-year-old Danielle Maudsley. The other drivers, who were not injured, took down Maudsley’s tag number and gave a description of her to the trooper.

He found her at a Seminole address listed on the vehicle’s registration.

Maudsley was cuffed and taken to the FHP substation in Pinellas Park.

Records show Maudsley has never had a driver’s license in Florida.

Maudsley’s mother, Cheryl Maudsley, who has a criminal record that includes charges of drug possession and theft

The car Maudsley was driving that day, a 2008 Chevy Malibu, belonged to Doris Garrison.

“I didn’t give her permission to take my car,” said Garrison, 70, who has been in Illinois most of the summer caring for her grandchildren. “She stole it.”

Use of tasers on handcuffed people should be a criminal act.

The poor young girl in this video couldn't even break her fall with her hands because she was in handcuffs. What this cop did was akin to shooting her in the back with his gun.

She presented no risk to him or to others.

I hope this case receives national coverage and leads to needed reforms and a few heads rolling at that department.

First, running away in handcuffs is just stupid. She could have just as well tripped and fallen and be in the same condition without the Taser. She is the one most at fault for her condition.

However, as there was police involvement in the severe injury of a handcuffed, unarmed prisoner the department needs to make changes to prevent this happening again.

The first change is minimum fitness requirements for all officers. The officer in this case reached for his Taser first because he was not fit for a foot pursuit. Make sure all officers can lift a minimum weight and run sprints and the mile within minimum times with full gear. This poor slob could barely keep his pants up at a jog.

Second, restrict the use of Tasers on handcuffed runners. They are not a threat as long as they are running away and they probably aren’t going to get far. As if the stun of the Taser isn’t bad enough, the handcuffs limit their ability to catch themselves as they fall they are much more likely to suffer severe injury like this girl did. Tasers are not a harmless way of stopping someone, so police need to stop behaving like they are.

Man, she hit HARD and at just the wrong angle.

I certainly don’t blame the cops but prayers for the girl and her family.

Cops are far too fond of all the battle rattle festooning their belts, and far too quick to use it. At the very minimum this fat slob, who should have chased her down, should be charged with manslaughter or negligent homicide. If he’s too fat or out of shape to pursue an handcuffed suspect he should be fired or permanently reassigned to dispatch or custodial duties (oh, sorry, union contract won’t allow I’m sure).
