You are right, but be careful. Talking about "leadership" is frowned upon here in the hustings. Notice how seldom anyone cares enough to mention it. There is a reason why conservatives have failed to coalesce this year--whenever a candidate threatens actually to lead s/he gets decapitated by the fearful followers of the ideological/cultural priesthood.

Even when Sarah Palin was still at least hypothetically in the running, we had hordes of quivering neurotics filling these threads telling us why she was "unelectable"--all nothing but liberal talking points of course, which is exactly the problem. But if "conservatives" are afraid to run Sarah Palin, why would we expect them to even think about running Newt.

It is tough to be a leader of men when there are no men to lead.

“Just a guess: Are you hoping for an open convention so that we can gag up another Bush?”

Hoping for a Bush? Hell No. But Jeb would be better than who we have now.

“Or are you planning for our candidate to lose to Obama but take and hold congress so that the establishments on both sides can continue to screw us over for another round?”

Not planning for it. I just see it as the most likely outcome.

[snip] As Lyndon Johnson knew, the Civil Right Act of 1964 would trigger a fundamental shift in national politics. The South would no longer be in the hip pocket of the Democratic Party. [/snip]
