Catholic League president Bill Donohue comments on President Obamas revised healthcare plan as it affects Catholic institutions:
President Obamas latest ploy just adds insult to injury. If the insurance plan of a Catholic institution must cover services it deems immoral, then such a healthcare plan is offensive, plain and simple.
The Catholic League, for example, uses Christian Brothers as its insurance carrier. So if a future employee of ours were to demand free abortion-inducing drugs, and she is allowed to request free drugs from Christian Brothers, then the rest of us would, in effect, be subsidizing her abortion. This is outrageous and will not stand judicial scrutiny.
When it comes to the First Amendment, there is no such thing as a half loaf. We want now, and in the future, the same rights we have enjoyed since the beginning of the republic.
The Obama ploy is also cynical: its effect is to peel off liberal Catholic opposition to Obamacare. In other words, the old divide and conquer strategy is in play. But it wont work as nicely as they think: there are too many practicing Catholics who will only be impelled to revolt.
Obama has decided to turn up the heat. Hell soon see how hot things get when Catholics team with Protestants, Jews, Mormons and others to recapture their First Amendment rights. Indeed, President Obama will now be remembered as the president who brought the culture war to a boil.
On Friday, February 10, Bill Donohue will appear on Fox News

I thought Obama was supposed to be this political genius.
How can he and his team justify these moves politically.
I mean, assume that you are an Obama WH staffer. Could you defend these actions in a purely political manner?
Can you make a case that this makes his re-election more probable? I can’t, as cynical as I can be I still cannot make this justifiable from the democrat party political standpoint.
Either this is truly and wholly motivated by a desire to end religious freedom in this country, a desire to end as many lives as possible, or Obama is absolutely inept beyond our most wild imagination. I really don’t think it was motivated by re-election goals.
Freepers, how about we let Bill Donahue know his most potent weapon; Obama’s own ineligibility. Maybe Bill doesn’t know about it, and maybe he is angry enough to use it. Why pull any punches from the fascist fraud occupier in the White House? Catholics need to go birther on zer0!
This Marxist POS has got to go, it's either him or the Republic.
Here’s what GB said today, and I agree with him. This was a CALCULATED move by zero... they knew that it would cause an uproar and that it would motivate his base. (just like the recent Susan Komen debacle, coincidence?? Hmmm.) It detracts from the clusterfudge that is his economic legacy, and riles up the faithful feminazis. Then he does a mea culpa and says he will back off (only to mandate that insurance companies provide contraceptives and abortions for “free”). This was planned all along, and erodes our liberties while making some sheeple think they “won” the battle, but really we are losing the war.
DON’T BE FOOLED (AGAIN). Mussobamalini has already privately guaranteed NOW, NARAL and PP that in his next term he will force free provision of all contraceptive services and abortion services from every business entity in the country. He hates all religion as much as they do.
Where is the hue and cry about Muslims being exempt from Obamacare but other religious objections are ignored?
Who is GB?...I agree with your post but who is GB?
I watched his waffley speech. It was masterful in buzzword but at the same time a pathetic grasp for meaning, much less a concession.
Catholics here are actively and directly opposing this legislative & executive dictatorship.
I’ve read before about how the “Cynics” took over the roman senate.
It was a disaster then and a disaster now. I’m going to do some research and get back to you on this thread when I find some good correlations.
bttt
He was GREAT! And I’m guessing the allusion he made to Bishop Dolan that Dolan’s ready to disavow it.
After listening to Obama’s “solution” (as in ultimate solution for pre-born humans), I am convinced that he REALLY believes we are stupid.
WE WILL NOT COMPLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Glenn Beck
About certain things, he’s on a roll lately. The border issue and assault against the religious are two examples.
I guess, on some level, we should be grateful that he is a narcissist who conjures up his own reality. He believes the he can get everyone else to see his version or reality.
I don’t think that Catholics will buy into that as long as their premiums don’t go up it is ok for the insurance company they are doing business with allows their subsidized employees to get abortion services. This is an extremely cynical view of religious conscience. 0bama is pretty much saying our values are hypocritical and as long as we can do a cosmetic lie all is well.
If a president can order an institution to do something, and they have to do it, its no longer a free country. If he can order a private company to do something, likewise.
If he gives a waiver to the church, but they still have to pay for it, its no waiver. And in any case, if its evil for a church to pay for abortions, its evil for an insurance company. Is he offering them a conscience waiver? No, he isn’t.
But an insurance company is made up of people, who are now required to offer a service that violates their conscience and must do so at the demand of a president who would be king.
