Santorum declared winner in Missouri, Minnesota

DENVER — Rick Santorum had a breakthrough night on Tuesday by winning the Missouri primary and the Minnesota caucuses, breathing life into his struggling campaign and slowing Mitt Romney’s march to the Republican presidential nomination.

Early returns had Santorum running two-to-one over Romney in Missouri, and the Associated Press projected he would win the state’s “beauty contest” primary, which awards no delegates but provides fresh momentum to the former Pennsylvania senator’s campaign.

Romney was hoping to extend his winning streak as he tried to strengthen his claim to the mantle of the presumptive nominee, but he was bracing for a loss in one or more states as Santorum made an aggressive run in Colorado, Minnesota and Missouri.

Rep. Ron Paul (Tex.), who has yet to secure a win in the 2012 sweepstakes, mobilized his loyal support networks in the three states, banking on low turnout in the non-binding contests to give him a win.

Meanwhile, Newt Gingrich did not compete in Missouri, which was holding a “beauty contest” primary that awarded no delegates. The former House speaker looked past Tuesday’s contests and instead campaigned in Ohio, one of several delegate-rich states voting March 6 on “Super Tuesday,” when he hopes to jump-start his struggling candidacy.

The Colorado and Minnesota caucuses are not binding and would not award convention delegates, but at stake Tuesday night was the prestige of winning.

yes, indeed...these are very frightening times. I do think Santorum could win the general, though, and after yesterday? Who knows? Maybe he has a shot at the nomination? He will have to win a big state...but if he does that, then it’s game on!

Sorry to hear that you had some problems with the Catholic Church. I have found it to be a wonderful haven from the storm for our family and have certainly grown in my relationship with God there. May God bless you.

He just looked rattled and angry. He was talking fast. His words were clipped. He was grimacing. He was unsuccessfully trying to smile.

I don't think he expected this beat down.

He's not going to be the nominee.

I'm just waiting for Paul to beat him in Va. That would cause some GOP-E heads to spin.

Meh... I get all excited about fads, but rarely delve very deeply. I’ve long been a fan of dystopian futures and alternate histories. I was a fan of LXG and Watchmen before anyone thought to make a movie out of them. I was even a Jules Verne fan... I’d even love to see Master of the World re-done with a more Steamy theme to it.

Probably not going to the Con in Michigan. My Wife already thinks I’m looking for excuses to get the hell out of the house. :-)

I’ve heard of them. Mostly Abney Park, the Ghosts Project, Mr. B, Professor Elemental, Dr. Steel, etc... Radio Riel Steampunk channel is playing in the background here in my office right now.

Still waiting for the day when I can set up a nuclear powered steam turbine to power my daily driver... ;-)

My daughter likes Abney park, I haven’t had a chance to listen to them yet. I learned SPG when we visited the San Diego zoo last summer, I got to talk to one of the band guys who does their production work. But my daughter really likes them, so she’s on all their fan sites. She’s why I’m going to the convention.

Now I have to put together a costume, and not just the cheap one I made for myself....
