IDF commanders are investigating a "serious operational failure" that occurred Thursday morning when a lone soldier was left behind after an operation near Ramallah.
Army Radio reported that an IDF mechanized infantry unit entered the village of Burdus near Ramallah to conduct operations that included searches.
According to the report, shortly after the operation ended and the unit departed a lone soldier was left standing at the gate of the village.
Local Arabs say they feared the soldier would be lynched and aided him in reaching an area under IDF control where another unit picked him up and returned him to the base.
An IDF spokesperson said the incident is being taken very seriously, especially since the soldier reported the battalion commander did not conduct a head-count or radio that the unit was departing.

Well maybe some of them are. My dev lead is Arab and a swell chap (in case he’s lurking..).
Fear is a good thing sometimes. I’ll be the Arab community was thinking, get this guy out of here or indiscriminate bombs will fall.
And some are. Many are. Libtardian thinking, however, is that everyone in that village deserves a medal for not lynching the soldier, and this proves that all Arabs are good as gold, and those two guys in Remalleh were lynched by either: a. Shin Bet agents; or b. Oppressed, downtrodden victims who finally had an outlet, and would otherwise be peace-loving people, but for Israeli oppression. But is this village now branded as full of “collaborators”? Time will tell.

Some Arabs are Christians there.
This does not seem to be a Bn commander mess up but rather a platoon leadership problem.

Update: Senior IDF Officer Suspended for Leaving Soldier Behind

Local Arabs say they feared the soldier would be lynched and aided him in reaching an area under IDF control where another unit picked him up and returned him to the base. They'll be executed by the local jihadists while their neighbors join with the rest of the crowd shouting "allah akbar".
They’ll be saved from that, because the IDF denies that they “rescued” him, says they only offered to do so, but he didn’t trust them enough, and then a jeep came by and collected him. Either they’re saving their lives, or that’s what happened.
Anyway, here’s another update:
