Conservatives Criticize Drudge for Anti-Gingrich Assault
NYT ^ | 01/26/2012 | Michael D. Shear

Furious conservatives have taken to blogs and Twitter on Thursday to vent their ire against what they allege is a conspiratorial dumping of twisted and manipulated negative attacks on Newt Gingrich.

The target of their fury: The Drudge Report.

For the last 48 hours, the conservative Web site led by Matt Drudge has become a virtual campaign arm for Mitt Romney, featuring huge, screaming headlines about Mr. Gingrich and his past.

That prompted conservatives who support Mr. Gingrich to accuse Mr. Drudge of selling out to the Republican establishment — many of whom have come to Mr. Romney’s aid as the battle with Mr. Gingrich has heated up.

Ana Beavenhouser, whose Twitter profile says that she is “so right wing, my symbol is not the elephant … it is the WOOLY MAMMOTH!!” posted on Twitter:

@anabeavenhouser: Where the hell was all this effort into “exposing” a candidate when #obama was running? #Drudge is officially irrelevant now!

Across the Internet, conservatives questioned whether Mr. Drudge had become as much the enemy as the liberal media.

@verigatari verigatari: Is this #Drudge report, or MSNBC? Matt Drudge is no better than Chris Matthews, distorting the facts! #tcot #withNewt

And many suggested that a new media elite — joined by the once-conservative Mr. Drudge — had banded together to keep Mr. Gingrich from becoming the Republican Party‘s presidential nominee.

It's pretty repulsive that Drudge has sold out on this one. This is one of the most important elections in history and a rare chance to get a true conservative elected. Yet Drudge falls in line with the elites and becomes a surrogate for a RINO. Very depressing.

Drudge has a place on his site to leave news tips, just tell him how you feel about his mitt love.

I’ve been leaving plenty of ‘news tips’ for Drudge in the box you mention. I hope others will as well.

Thanks, that’s exactly what I did. I’ve loved his site for years but had to tell him that he’s finally letting his lifestyle muddle his politics. Could it be AIDS dementia? I don’t know. But for some reason, the homosexuals are on a jihad against Newt.

Romney's bad behavior Exposed by Seamus

"Romney Loses Nomination Over Dog Abuse? - Romney was traveling that summer with his wife, five sons, and Seamus to his parent's cottage on Lake Huron. But hours into the ride, Seamus apparently suffered diarrhea, which ran down the back window of the car. .David Kravitz wrote on BlueMassGroup, a liberal blog. "It also strikes me as classic Romney: it solves a problem efficiently, in a business-like manner, and with no regard whatsoever for the suffering that the solution may cause."

"But the details of the event are more than unseemly - they may, in fact, be illegal. Massachusetts's animal cruelty laws specifically prohibit anyone from carrying an animal "in or upon a vehicle, or otherwise, in an unnecessarily cruel or inhuman manner or in a way and manner which might endanger the animal carried thereon. "An officer for the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals responded to a description of the situation saying "it's definitely something I'd want to check out." The officer, Nadia Branca, declined to give a definitive opinion on whether Romney broke the law but did note that it's against state law to have a dog in an open bed of a pick-up truck, and "if the dog was being carried in a way that endangers it, that would be illegal."

"Dog on Roof? What Was It Like for Romney's Pooch? - Scientists Say Dog Likely Experienced Wind-Whipped, Uncomfortable Trip - "Before beginning the drive, Mitt Romney put Seamus, the family's hulking Irish setter, in a dog carrier and attached it to the station wagon's roof rack. e'd built a windshield for the carrier, to make the ride more comfortable for the dog,".. Jordan Kaplan, the owner of Petaholics, a dog walking service in New York City,
and a lifelong dog owner and dog lover, said Romney's actions were uncalled for"

"Romney's dog - This is a distinction Mitt Romney probably could do without, but he is surely the first presidential candidate to be attacked for putting a dog with diarrhea in a carrier and tying it to the top of a station wagon. Romney's defense: Seamus liked it. [like the citizens under Romney's RomneyCARE, etc.?] "

"As the oldest son, Tagg Romney commandeered the way-back of the wagon, keeping his eyes fixed out the rear window, where he glimpsed the first sign of trouble. ''Dad!'' he yelled. ''Gross!'' A brown liquid was dripping down the back window, payback from an Irish setter who'd been riding on the roof in the wind for hours. As the rest of the boys joined in the howls of disgust, Romney coolly pulled off the highway and into a service station. There, he borrowed a hose, washed down Seamus and the car, then hopped back onto the highway."

"Story about dog on car roof comes back to bite Romney - 200 comments from readers complaining of animal cruelty"

Matt Drudge helps Mitt Romney coordinate attacks on Newt Gingrich

Considering the volume of attacks directed at Newt, it seems reasonable to assume that Mitt has been doling out the cash. The anti-Reagan line of attack, in particular, seemed directly coordinated with the ads that Mitt Romney has been running against Newt in Florida (see the video below). Ironically, Michael Reagan himself came out today in defense of Newt, and Newt’s campaign dug up a video of Nancy Reagan commenting that Reagan was passing the torch to Newt. This was bound to backfire on Romney.

Dump Drudge

I don’t see any huge bias. Here are the election realeted headlines right now. Seems to be pretty balanced. And at the top is a paid ad with a pic of Sarah Palin and “Sarah votes for Newt” It may just more people click on Gingrich stories than Romney stories. Who would want to read about Myth?

GINGRICH VOWS TO STAY IN ‘UNTIL CONVENTION’...

Paul has no intention of dropping out...

GINGRICH: ROMNEY AT DEBATE ‘MOST DISHONEST IN HISTORY’...

Mitt: Newt ‘like Goldilocks’...

PALIN: Cannibals in GOP Establishment Employ Tactics of the Left...

MAG: Elliott Abrams Caught Misleading on Gingrich/Reagan...

SCARBOROUGH: The Newt I know...

There! Fixed it for you!

Better yet…

"Matt Drudge has become irrelevant…"

I just refuse to get all wee-wee’d up over a former telemarketer whose formative years were spent running a gift shop...

It would be pretty cool to put up a Drudge-like aggregation page on FR where any story that’s posted in the forum automatically shows up as a headline and link. Sorta like our “headline view” but all on one page, organized by content.

Drudgereport is proof of substance over style, but technically it’s amazing that a site with Alexa ranking of 385 looks like it came right out of the Stone Age.

Every Comment against Drudge plays into the hands of the Demo Craps and The ObamAllah, Duh. Drudge opens up more avenues to the TRUE news than any other single site, especially the MSM ...........without Drudge the non-MSM would be without a connection.
The Obamites and other Stalinist’s would rather close down Drudge than Rush because Drudge connects/introduces the Americans to the truth and the facts (or opinions) on one computer screen.

I can't post here my email to Drudge who I have faithfully (and daily) went to for my fix but needless to say it wasn't exactly nice or "family-oriented".

That bottomm-feeding, scumbag, SOB will probably (like the drama Queen Coulter) take a hit over this and I wouldn't be surprised to see his numbers drop substantially.

I haven't clicked his site since Thursday.
