PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. Newt Gingrich said today he was not happy with his uncharacteristically flat debate performance Thursday night, when he seemed passive despite repeated jabs from a hard-charging Mitt Romney.
But he said it was not his fault.
You cannot debate somebody who is dishonest, Gingrich told reporters. You just cant. People say Im a good debater. I cant debate somebody who wont tell the truth.
Gingrich said he was stunned by Romneys repeated distortions.
A couple of scenes you can go back and replay, he said. I was staring in amazement. I know what hes saying is untrue. And I also know that, in that particular audience, it would not have worked to take him head on, so I backed out.
Gingrich pointed to Romneys assertion during the debate that he only voted for Democrats when no Republican was on the ballot. Gingrich said that, in the 1992 presidential primary in Massachusetts, Romney could have voted for either George H. W. Bush or Pat Buchanan, but chose instead to vote for Paul Tsongas, a Democrat.
During the debate, Larry Sabato is tweeting, that is not true,

Mendacity Mitt dishonest?
Newt can worry any point to pliancy but pinning perfidy on the gifted liar Mitt Romney can be left to his least gifted minion...
...I mean...duh!
never underestimate how difficult it is to correct lies by citing facts...

GO NEWT!
It sure fits after last Thursday. I just sent Newt another donation for the final push. GO NEWT GO!
Yes, that’s true. But I do think that one of the problems with Romney is that he is an exceptionally good liar...he’s like a sociopath, he simply says whatever will benefit him at a given moment.
Right now he’s pretending to be the child of “Mexican immigrants.” This is because his (Anglo Mormon) family fled Utah for Mexico when polygamy was outlawed and went to form in a cult community down there. The Mexicans were not happy and some of the Mormons, including Romney’s grandfather and his father (a small child at the time), returned to the US. This does not make Romney a “child of Mexican immigrants.” But speaking to Hispanic audiences, that’s what he said.
But unfortunately Romney gets off very easily on the Bill Clinton defense (I don’t recall, I misspoke...) because all he really wants to do is get the meme out there, and all the press and the GOP head honchos really want to do is force Romney on us as our candidate. Thus, no questions asked.
And even when they are asked, as Wolf Blitzer surprisingly did when he caught Romney in a lie about not knowing about an attack ad that bore a personal statement from Romney saying he had authorized it, Romney just shrugged it off.
Twice in the debates Rick Perry pressed Romney on lies (hiring illegals and removing a passage about how mandated health care would be good for all states from his 2nd edition paperback, "No Apologies.") and both times Romney became rattled and IRATE with Perry.

Newt Gingrich is back in Orlando this afternoon and evening, hoping speeches to three very different groups will help him regain traction as he and rival Mitt Romney head into Tuesday’s Republican presidential primary in Florida.
Gingrich is appearing first before a “Hispanic Town Hall” at Centro de La Familia, 4365 Kennedy Ave. He’s been battling Romney, the former Massachusetts governor, to win over Republican Hispanics in Florida.
It’s Gingrich’s first appearance in Orlando since the former U.S. House speaker met with national Hispanic leaders in Miami on Friday, promising a road to citizenship, through military commitment, for the children of illegal immigrants.
Later, he appears at a Christian forum organized by The Liberty Counsel, a Christian conservative organization, at the Aloma Church, 1815 State Road 436. Gingrich has been battling with former U.S. senator Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania to win the hearts and votes of Christian conservatives.
Tonight, at the Rosen Shingle Creek, 9939 Universal Blvd., Gingrich will get a chance to appeal to mainline, traditional Republicans. He will be the keynote speaker at the Orange County Republican Executive Committee’s annual Lincoln Day Dinner, an affair for which tickets started at $150 a head.

God bless you Cinci for fighting for a lousy candidate but a potentially great president—I bashed him then but miss him now.
Not happy with Newt but happy with not Mitt and damn joyous to vote for anybody but the evil Marxist come November.
Good for Newt...because Milt IS dishonest...and that's what he IS known for.
Friends of mine, who avoid politics, have even taken notice of Milt's smear machine.
“The footage was used without permission and the extensive use of the broadcast “inaccurately suggests that NBC News and Mr. Brokaw have consented to the use of this material and agree with the political position espoused by the videos,” NBC’s vice president of media law, David N. Sternlicht, wrote Romney’s campaign manager, Matt Rhoades.
“Aside from the obvious copyright issues, this use of the voice of Mr. Brokaw and the NBC News name exploits him and the journalistic credibility of NBC News,” the letter said. The network asked for the campaign to stop running the ad immediately and revise any other videos or commercials to remove at NBC material.
“As a news organization, NBC News objects to any use of NBC News journalists and our copyrighted material that suggests to the public that we or our journalists are taking sides with any individual or organization involved in a political campaign or dispute, and we request that your organization respect that concern,” the letter said.

So that makes Romney a thief as well...
I note, somewhat sheepishly, that Cain is still out there hawking 9-9-9 and has deceptively endorsed “the American people;” which accomplishes nothing and helps no one; other than, perhaps, Cain.
Rick Perry will ride again!

It's official...no difference whatsoever between Milt and the socialist Dims.
Fox, Rush and Drudge will be all over this.

I almost choked when I read that. NBC News taking sides in politics? Naaaah, never!
