I agree. hear hear!

To all- don't be discouraged. The RNC reserved most of the debate tickets so, hello. Newt is doing great though he will need the grassroots to help him with the monster GOP machine. He has been attacked by many of his so called friends so I would image he spent much time doing what he could do to stop those harsh attacks. He is worthy of our support. Who among us has stepped up to take on this monster. Of all of the candidates we have, he has the best chance for us getting any reform. He needs to talk about reform like he did tho the Media is purposely keeping off that message.

Good links, thanks. I just wish my “conservative” friends would actually take Newt seriously, instead of insisting that “we can’t win” if we run a conservative!

Excellent post. Wish I could print out thousands of copies and distribute in Fla. Newt is right on space exploration. He is a great visionary. We take for granted the many things we enjoy in our day to day lives from the internet, to cell phones, ipads, satellites and the medical technology. There is so much that has been discovered. One tiny example which is on NASA’s site is...At the Hospital With NASA07.29.04”Cool” Laser Heart Surgery

Nobody thinks it’s “cool” to have a heart operation, but thanks to NASA technology a “cool” laser is providing thousands of patients with an alternative to heart bypass surgery.

Image to right: Doctors can now use the “cool” laser instead of performing regular bypass surgery. Credit: NASA

It is estimated that some five million Americans suffer from “hardening of the arteries” (atherosclerosis), the single biggest cause of heart disease and related ailments. Until recently, heart bypass surgery, which replaces clogged blood vessels, was the main treatment for serious cases.

A non-surgical alternative to some patients is balloon angioplasty. Through this procedure, a flexible catheter with a tiny balloon at its tip is threaded into the blocked artery and inflated to widen the path for blood flow.

In January, 1992, the Food and Drug Administration approved a new surgery method derived from laser technology pioneered by NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory for remote sensing of earth’s ozone layer. This laser surgery can help a broader range of patients than balloon angioplasty.

The procedure involves threading a small catheter through coronary arteries. The laser light is carried through fiber optic bundles within the catheter. Another group of fibers shines a light at the tip to provide video pictures of the inside of the artery. Watching the video pictures, the doctor can spot areas of blockage and fire short bursts of laser beams to vaporize them. While other types of lasers are too hot for delicate heart surgery, the excimer laser operates at a “cool” 65° C, a temperature that human tissue can tolerate.
There is much more...as I posted before..ONE day (after China has beat us to the punch) people will look back and say, “Newt was ahead of his time”

Newt’s been my man ever since Palin didn’t committ. We need Newt like no other but I give Santorum props. Santorum isn’t faking his politics, I don’t think. They need to make a deal, and they’re bother realizing it, I think.

Great points all!

I thought Newt reminding people of JFK invoking the race for space was genious. He may have been a Dem...but he was right, and it worked. We led.

I think Newt is very forward thinking. He turns things over to private enterprise with limited Fed involvment.

Much like the 60’s..if we don’t do it someone else will.

I think he was discouraged by the pooh-poohing of his ideas. I think he is on the right track. jmho

I know that audience was stacked with Romneybots -for part of that group (audience) to ridicule any space advancement/ free market to research in Florida is nuts.
I wonder how many were bused in?
This area wants space exploration and a less government run Nasa. We need NASA here for the Jobs as well. Why would they laugh about the improvement to the Interstate while strengthen the port in South Carolina?? Idiots. Romeybots. Rinos. That was an Obama disaster and they didn't seize on that as a conservative principle? And what is that about Romney saying he is proud and happy to pay all of his taxes. It still comes back that he feels ashamed of being rich (to his liberal friends-in the general, they will cream him)

I was listening to Michael Medved today briefly on the radio. He was acting appalled because he said Gingrich wants to put a mining colony on the moon. To him, this was an example of how Newt comes up with crazy ideas.

I didn’t hear Gingrich’s speech, but I don’t think a trip back to the moon and a subsequent foothold there is loony, and judging by the snatch of the speech I did hear, with the applause, I don’t think the audience did, either. The folks at NASA make their plans big, and pretty far ahead. I think they would say this is reasonable.

CNN did their best to rig the debate in favor of Romney.

Anyone who criticizes the idea of going back to the moon as “loony”, is outing themselves as yet another symptom of how degenerate American civilization has become.

A nation of ostriches, burying their hands into the sands of irrelevance.

You’re kidding. The RINOS reserved the seats that were wasted? How else could they stack the seats with Briham Young students, if Newt’s rowdy crowd were allowed.

I grew up with the space program and think we need to continue it in some form.

But what is the business or scientific purpose for a base on the moon? I can understand the space station where we can do experiments, research and product development. We need a manned rocket program of some kind. But there needs to be a purpose, and then what is the most practical way to develop that.

I agree in the 60’s the space program spurred many of us into math/science and technology. But today it is the internet, smart phones and social media that is enticing kids into technology.

It just seems like Florida pandering by Newt to me.

Yeah, I listened to it. He actually was saying that Americans need to have leadership that thinks big, like Kennedy and the race to get a man on the moon.

He suggested that we take 10% of the NASA budget and offer prizes for the private sector to come up with the new technology needed to establish an American colony on the moon.

A big part of the speech was contrasting the government efforts vs private efforts. For example the Wright brothers.
He wasn't proposing a big new government spending program, but I knew it would get misinterpreted and ridiculed, because we are broke.

We either stay ahead in Space and technology, or let the Chinese and Russians get ahead of us, and that has dire National Security ramifications.

Get real. Newt’s been talking for decades about a vision for America pioneering space. There’s nothing pandering about it.

Going into space, having lunar colonies, etc. would be a powerful source of inspiration that satisfies a very human imperative to explore, discover, and adventure into the unknown.
