If this was Bush Sr. they would have let them go immediately.
If this was Bush Jr. they would have let them go and paid for the trip.
If this was Reagan, they would have let them go, paid for the trip, made sure it was 1st class, given each American $1,000 travel money and begged each one “tell your President we were nice to you!”
