A very good response, up until this:

"The better course is to stop sending the wealthy benefits they do not need..."

That sounds to me like "means testing", and that's the slippery slope that would inevitably end up turning social security into strictly another welfare program for the bums, deadbeats, losers, and parasites who comprise the Democrat party base.

"Wealthy" would continually be defined down until it included everybody who ever had an IRA or a 401k. No thanks, Mitch. Either give people the opportunity to opt out (ie., not pay into) or stuff that idea where the sun don't shine.

It’s weak pablum when Indictment is warranted.

Agree. He lost me at “Republicans tonight salute our President, for instance, for his aggressive pursuit of the murderers of 9/11, and for bravely backing long overdue changes in public education. I personally would add to that list admiration for the strong family commitment that he and the First Lady have displayed to a nation sorely needing such examples.”

No thanks.

...... I hope the other GOP Nominees were taking notes on the verbage that Mr. Daniels put forth. >

I certainly hope NOT. He praised Obama for being a family man (direct attack on Newt) and stated that Obama did not cause the mess we are in. WRONG. All of Obama's policies have damaged the economy and none of them have helped. Therefore Obama IS the cause for the mess. Perhaps intentionally inflicting damage.

Daniels represents the typical establishment Milquetoast Bob Dole crap we need to exorcise from the Republican Party.

"The federal government now spends one of every four dollars in the entire economy; it borrows one of every three dollars it spends. No nation, no entity, large or small, public or private, can thrive, or survive intact, with debts as huge as ours.

I liked the response. Good job Daniels. I wish you were in the race this year.

You would be surprised at how many here simply do not understand the power that was in Daniels words. Kind of disheartening actually.

Daniels is worse than Romney-no excitement there and besides
he is the typical checkered pants country club politician.

An excellent speech. But he completely skipped over all the social issues. Obama is a baby killer. That needs to be said. Obama and his friends are imposing sexual perversions on our school children. That needs to be said. Obama hates Christianity, and hates freedom of religion. That needs to be said.

And foreign policy? Many more of our troops were wounded and killed in Afghanistan under Obama than were ever killed under Bush. Yet Obama has basically lost that war. Bush had the war in Iraq almost won, but Obama lost that war, too.

Obama has given Brazil billions of dollars to drill for oil under the sea, although he has blocked any new development here—so Brazil could sell it to the Chinese! And now by blocking the pipeline he is trying to force Canada to sell all their oil to the Chinese.

Obama helped force secular leaders out in Egypt and Tunisia, and now fanatical Islamists are taking over. He bombed schools and hospitals in Libya and handed that country over to Muslim terrorists, too. The so-called “Arab Spring” is rapidly turning into a winter for the civilization we have built up over the past centuries.

And so forth. A good speech, but it leaves a lot out. And why on earth waste time with compliments for Michelle?

“Contrary to the President’s constant disparagement of people in business, it’s one of the noblest of human pursuits. The late Steve Jobs - what a fitting name he had - created more of them than all those stimulus dollars the President borrowed and blew.”

I confess I didn’t hear the speech, but that line is pretty darn good.

This could have been the best speech since Reagan’s “Tear Down This Wall”, but it won’t matter one bit. I bet tonight’s ratings for this event were the lowest yet for Obummer. Mitch had a bad lead in.

“The President’s grand experiment in trickle-down government has held back rather than sped economic recovery” Nice line.

?? Huh?? It is a stupid line as is the rest of his weak, boring response. There is absolutely nothing in his blah blah blah speech that indicates the true peril we face. It is a speech what will properly be forgotten by midnight tonight.

We have in Obama a person who is hell-bent on transforming and destroying our Republic. That is an indisputable fact. He has stated that he "wants to fundamentally transform" Amercia.

What Mr. Daniels, Mitt, and the rest of the weak contemptible GOP-e do not consciously understand is that Obama is doing exactly that! Obama and his gang laugh at the GOP.

Read Mr.Daniels speech with the thought that Obama is going full speed in his effort to transform our Republic into a decaying Socialist Hell. In that context, anyone with any sense of righteousness, any sense of red-blooded American anger, would say to Mr. Daniels, "Mitch, get the H*ll out of the way and let real [political] Warriors save our Republic."

2012 is not a time for men of small stature, minds and spirits. The American people will never rally around Mitch, Mitt or any other GOP-e. 2012 will determine America's destiny.

A response speech is usually a short speech barely 10 minutes log at best. One cant hit every issue in a response speech.

I have been screaming and yelling about our debt for a long time, no one seems to care, well maybe now people will wake up to the fact that the greatest threat to this nation is it’s debt. Even DoD released a report saying debt was our greatest enemy. Right now OPEC is still accepting dollars for oil, if OPEC stops accepting dollars for oil and they might, we will pay 25 or 30 dollars for a gallon of gas.

It seems to me Daniels makes some veiled threats and “finger wagging” to Tea Party types. Screw him!

I didn't see any of that in there..

Our government debt has exceeded the GDP and the entitlements are going to explode in size. That is a fact.

That’s exactly my take. After paying max social security and funding my 401k, I object to being means tested out of what was confiscated involuntarily.

Agree, see my response at post #31. It's astounding that anyone could be inspired by his insulting words. It was nothing but useless blah blah blah.

He has insulted the cause of Liberty. Another wimpy elite speaks in fawning platitudes of nuanced policy disagreements with the "loyal" opposition.
