With contributions coming in, allies of Newt Gingrich have just purchased $6 million in advertising in Florida, to further build up the former House Speaker after his victory in South Carolina.

The first ad labels Romney as "the inventor of government run health care" suggesting he is allied with President Obama. The ad is paid for by "Winning Our Future," a "super PAC" aligned with Gingrich.

The organization has received $10 million in donations from one couple, Sheldon and Miriam Adelson, who have backed Gingrich since they met him in 1995 when legislation important to Israel passed the House.

Interesting... I wonder if ads are really having that much of an effect. Guess it's better safe than sorry. Also, better not to allow all the air to be consumed by opposing camps.

It forces Romney PACs to go on the defense rather than using all their resources to attack Newt.

I am not sure it wins or loses elections but it can limit and neutralize the incoming fire that the Newt camp has to take.

I live in Florida and have been seeing Romney attack ads all day on TV. Also getting robocalls on the phone. I wonder just how effective they are as about all they do is irritate me.

I have not seen a single ad from any other candidate.

Apparently they’re not working because Newt’s leading by at least 5% in FL according to the latest polls.

They need to start getting the Mitt/Crist connections out there in front of the base. If they were angry at Crist for flipping left and then going third party, they’ll just love learning that the same consultants who sent Crist down that road are running Romney’s Florida campaign.

I think Iowa showed that a one-sided atmosphere can powerfully shape the perceptions of the masses. If nothing else, parity in advertising dilutes the opponent's message.

Romney started his ads too early. Newts ads will now be seen as an “Answer” to Romney’s negativity.

I don’t read that much into Iowa.

Only 120,000 people went to the caucuses, Iowa has very low unemployment, and the caucus system draws political junkies and folks like us who are actively paying attention.

Newt has to hit ObamaCare and RomneyCare over and over in his TV ads.

These seniors down here are woefully uneducated politically.

However, anything about their retirement medical benefits they understand perfectly.....like knowing what five numbers in a row on a bingo card means.

I actually called Newt's campaign today to ask what they are doing to get the “truth” out besides posting it on Newt.org. Not everyone is on the internet and capable of going to his website to read the disputes of Romney's lies. So they do need to do something to get the message out to the elderly and anyone who is not on the internet and not watching cable TV.

They assured me they have mailers, newspaper ads, phone calls, etc.

But research shows most people still get most of their “news” from TV. So TV ads are still important for a huge segment of the population.

I love super pacs.

Thanks to senile John McCain (and Russ Finegold) there is more money in politics than ever. I blame George Bush for not vetoing that bill

Newt’s campaign has also been making a lot of radio ad buys in Florida.
