Chalcedon is famous in church history as the site of the ecumenical council of 451. It was colonized by the Greeks 17 years before Byzantium. A Persian who was told that remarked that the people who colonized Chalcedon must have been blind because they didn't see that there was a much better site right across from them where Byzantium was later founded.
