Obama seeks power to merge agencies (The Communist Dictator wants more powers)
google ^ | 1/13/2012 | BEN FELLER, AP

President Barack Obama will ask Congress on Friday for greater power to shrink the federal government, and he would start by trying to merge six major trade and commerce agencies whose overlapping programs can be baffling to businesses, the White House said Friday. The Commerce Department would be among those that would cease to exist.

In an election year and a political atmosphere of tighter spending, Obama's motivation is about improving a giant bureaucracy, but that is hardly all of it.

To voters sick of dysfunction, Obama wants to show some action on making Washington work better. Politically, his plan would allow him to do so by putting the onus on Congress and in particular his Republican critics in the House of Representatieves and the Senate, to show why they would be against the pursuit of a leaner government.

It would be a feelgood move to merge the alphabet soup into one big “ombudsman” agency, but that agency would have more people than the former old ones combined. Out of frying pan, into fire.

Doesn’t exactly jive with the e-mail I just received saying he wants to make the Small Business Administration a Cabinet level agency. So much for going in to business for yourself, as I am sure this move is a means to more regulation on small businesses.

It's a power grab move, that's all. It has nothing to do with “streamlining” the Government, it has everything to do with consolidating control of Government.

Prolly will bring more regulation on small business, but Obama probably views it as a convenient funnel of bennies to his peeps.

This is actually a clever move. Obama and Democrats are to blame for the current level of dysfunction in congress. Any proposal to merge bureaucracies (and supposedly shrink them in the process) is going to have to go through Obama and Harry Reid anyway, but does anyone see a Republican president asking for powers like this? Maybe. But on the other hand, the MSM would go into attack mode if a GOP president sought these powers. Probably won't get Obama any more votes, but it makes GOP candidates look sort of weak. Sickening, isn't it?

I almost wish a 10 Richter scale earthquake would level everything in the beltway. It would make things so much simpler.

All the GOP House has to do is pass a bill eliminating these 6 agencies and then dare Reid and Obama to sign it.

Exactly. It’s bad enough that increasing yoy spending can be considered a “cut”. Democrats and RINOs can say one thing and do the exact opposite with impunity.

They should be doing that as often as they can, if not more often than that.

Good idea bad execution.
It would be better if congress wrote legislation to that effect and 0 would have to sign it.
Do not hand power to 0, he will propose something blatantly leftist, like create a whole new super-agency under one of his nutjob consumer advocacy environmentalist czars, and then blame the Republicans for obstructing his gov't reduction efforts.

It's an Obama political stunt. The GOP controlled House can take Obama up on it without giving him more Dictatorial powers.

If the Senate refuses to take up the vote to try and protect Obama then the House just has to proclaim that they will defund the agencies.

Sounds familiar!

Hitler knew that the task he had set himself would be immense and difficult to accomplish, that he would have to transform Germany in practically every respect: the structure of the state, social law, the constitution of society, the economy, civic spirit, culture, the very nature of men’s thinking. To accomplish his great goal, he would need to reestablish the equilibrium of the social classes within the context of a regenerated community, free his nation from foreign hegemony, and restructure its geographic unity.

Task number one: he would have to restore work and honor to the lives of six million unemployed. This was his immediate goal, a task that everyone else thought impossible to achieve.

After he had once again closed the windows of the chancellery, Hitler, with clenched fists and resolute mien, said simply: “The great venture begins. The day of the Third Reich has come.”

In just one year this “great venture” would be in full swing, effecting a transformation from top to bottom in political, social and economic life — indeed, in the German way of life itself./

Merging agencies is something that the Governor of WA state did, supposedly to balance the the budget. She merged the Dept of Natural Resources, which oversaw logging, fishing, hunting and the state parks with the Dept of Ecology, two agencies with very different agendas and mindsets.

In WA we also had a myriad of advisory boards and commissions with varying amounts of funding and responsibilities. These advisory boards were mostly just Democrat special interest lobby groups. Gregoire eliminated a few and then merged a lot of them into large full time fully funded government agency that now receives more funding than all the advisory boards and commissions did separately - and it is nothing but a composite of all the left wing radical environmental lobby groups. So basically, the tax payers are funding the leftwing activists.

All Communist and Socialist Slimeballs start consolidating their powers by eliminating departments and agencies then merging them into one nice and neat package for better dictatorial control.

This doesn't shrink the government one iota, it merely merges already bloated bureaucracies into mega-bearocracies.

Most of us know what this Soros backed communist is up to. So far he is Hitler lite. The rest of this year will see him try to gain full power. God help us all.

He wants to create the impression he's going to shrink the government. He needs to time it so that he can claim he did something to shrink the government before the next election, but have it be too soon for anybody to have time to figure out it actually got bigger.
