RAMALLAH, West Bank (AP) -- It's quiet time on Palestinian Sesame Street.
The iconic children's program, known as "Sharaa Simsim" in Arabic, has been put on hold for the 2012 season because of a funding freeze by the U.S. Congress.
Sharaa Simsim is one of many U.S.-funded Palestinian programs suffering after Congress froze the transfer of nearly $200 million to the U.S. Agency for International Development in October. The suspension aimed to punish the Palestinians for appealing to the United Nations for statehood.
The funding suspension affecting hospitals, education, and government ministries that all rely on American aid is breeding resentment and frustration in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, even among the most progressive organizations.
In the Ramallah offices of Sharaa Simsim on Thursday, the writing workshop room was empty and the set was closed.

Screw all that!
There is no such thing as a Palestinian Language! There is no Such thing as a Palestinian Blood line!
There is no Such thing as a Palestinian DNA Marker!
There has never been a Palestinian government nor was one ever attempted except as a tool to further undermine Israeli and Jewish rights to exist and in peace!
There is no unique Palestinian History!
There are no Palestinian Archaeology digs! There are no Palestinian Archaeology artifacts or antiquities!
There is no such thing as a Palestinian! So called Palestine at one time included Jordan. Why isn’t Jordan considered a larger part of Palestine or even East Palestine?
Palestine is a joke and a synthetic invention of displaced losers, who are nothing more than homeless and stateless Arabs owing their DNA and historical lineage to every country that surrounds Israel
That’s just it. Before the twentieth century, there were no countries. The people of the middle east were merely subjects of a long line of empires. All of the countries were invented in the twentieth century. The same people who complain about the plight of the “Palestinians” (who were fabricated out of whole cloth), don’t give a rat’s a$$ about the plight of the Kurds, or the Armenians, or the Copts, who are real.
Says the Freeper with a Lebanese nominally dejour. I agree with you.
“If we had funding, we would be writing scripts, we would be reviewing scripts, we would be hiring filmmakers to produce the videos,”
...we’d be exploding trash cans, Big Bird’s AK-47 would have ammo, and Susan would have her face covered like a decent woman...
But, but if we stop giving them money they will hate us!
.....Oh, wait. Never mind.
All of the characters are suicide bombers, anyways, so everybody knows how it ends!
is breeding resentment and frustration in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, even among the most progressive organizations. ...and what doesn’t?
Thanks SmithL.

A feeble attempt to counter jihadist children programing with our tax dollars
Throwing money at our enemies will ony empower them more.
Anything to do with the Palestinian Authority should rank dead last in our funding priorities.
It’s bad enough we’re blowing taxpayer money on PBS in this country. Now we’re blowing it on the Palestinian version of PBS!?
Good Lord, who wrote this tripe, the ghost of Yasser Arasplat?
Always here to help... ;^)
I agree with your thoughts here. The Palestinians are raining down rockets on Israel daily, and we're sending them even a dollar? Why?
The Current FReepathon Pays For The Current Quarters Expenses?
Hear that drip, drip? That’s my heart bleeding tahini...
