There was some discussion of this topic back when Governor George Romney first ran for president in 1968. I don't recall how it turned out because I was a boy at the time and because the campaign never went anywhere. I got hooked on politics later that summer watching the hippies riot at the Democrat convention in Chicago on my grandma's new black & white television set.
So does this mean that Mitt Romney had three grandmas?
One of George Romney's grandkids is probably mowing McCain's lawn.
Next week they are gonna tell us he’s Jewish...............

During the 1870s and 1880s laws were passed to punish polygamists, and in the 1890 Manifesto, the LDS Church banned polygamy. When Utah applied for statehood again it was accepted. One of the conditions for granting Utah statehood was that a ban on polygamy be written into the state constitution. This was a condition required of other western states that were admitted into the Union later. Statehood was officially granted on January 4, 1896.

McCain was born in the US Military part Panama Canal Zone(A US Territory at the time).
McCain was born on a U.S. military installation, essentially U.S. soil. Was this the same case with George Romney? Was George Romney a U.S. citizen at the time of Mitt’s birth?
Yes, George’s parents were both US citizens.
Mitt Romney is a natural born citizen having been born in the US to US citizen parents.
How was George Romney considered to be eligible for president if he was born in Mexico? He was the front runner in 1968 for a while. How?
A child born abroad to two U.S. citizen parents acquires U.S. citizenship at birth under section 301(c) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) provided that one of the parents had a residence in the United States or one of its outlying possessions prior to the childs birth. The child is considered to be born in wedlock if the child is the genetic issue of the married couple.
Mitt Romney is a natural born citizen having been born in the US to US citizen parents.
The Constitution does not define the meaning of natural born Citizen. The U.S. Supreme Court gives meaning to terms that are not expressly defined in the Constitution by looking to the context in which those terms are used; to statutes enacted by the First Congress, Marsh v. Chambers, 463 U.S. 783, 790-91 (1983); and to the common law at the time of the Founding. United Suites v. Wong Kim Ark, 169 U.S. 649, 655 (1898). These sources all confirm that the phrase natural born includes both birth abroad to parents who were citizens, and birth within a nations territory and allegiance. Thus, regardless of the sovereign status of the Panama Canal Zone at the time of Senator McCains birth, he is a natural born citizen because he was born to parents who were U.S. citizens.
When George Romney was running for president the natural born citizen issue emerged.
George shot himself in the foot with his being "Brainwashed" statement. The "natural born" citizen issue faded along with his presidential aspirations.
The problem is the Supreme Court has not determined what is a "natural born" citizen. - tom
I don’t think it is proper to describe the Mormon bases, or polygamy refuges, or polygamy compounds, or polygamy ranches in Mexico, as “colonies”.
IMHO...Obama was “selected” to be the “healthcare president”....Romney is being “selected” to be the “immigration president”......
McCain was not born in a military hospital, that lie is perpetuated by many but Freepers are better informed, so school yourself.
I am also a Navy Vet.
Work with me on this, I think we can now conclude that Mitt Romney is an ANCHOR BABY...
Sounds like RP will be the last man standing.
I believe you missed Minor V.
