Perry should stay in the race. The contest could drag on for months but not if all the candidates drop out.

First, the reason the GOP is having such a chaotic primary fight has nothing to do with the tea party. Frankly, it has nothing to do with the bulk of the GOP not wanting Romney

Totally clueless comment.

. But by God Mitt Romney may now get the political beating everyone has been expecting him to get. Newt Gingrich has nothing left to lose. He can go Newtlear against the guy he sees as having destroyed him. Newt Gingrich can unleash unmitigated hell against MItt Romney and just like the attacks on Newt were true, they’ll all be true about MItt Romney too.

Sure hope so
Negative campaigning is not a problem as long as the facts are there

In fact it should be done to show what a candidate really stands for ( or has no principles)

Most GOP voters don't really know Romney's record

Just hope there is enough $$$ to but the TV and newspaper ads

Typical Perry cult response. When Perry gets body slammed, it’s cry, whine and deflect the blame. Perry lost for the same reason that all but the most clueless, naive and obtuse hang up on telemarketers.

Because there was not such a thing and because the GOP likes orderly processes, we had to go back to 2000 and dredge up John McCain.

Erickson has his panties in a wad. He also has his facts wrong. McCain became the presumptive nominee of the party with just 33% of the total primary vote. After his narrow victories in FL and SC, the primary race was essentially over.

The fact is that the overwhelming majority of Reps did not want McCain to be the nominee. He was foisted on us by the Rep establishment and the MSM. McCain benefitted by the splintering of the conservative vote. With the race now down to three realistic candidates plus Paul, Romney will still have the advantage of a splintered opposition. We need to eliminate Gingrich or Santorum and then we will see where the strength lies.

Erickson endorsed Newt so he has a dog in the fight. The meaner and nastier Newt becomes, the less popular he will become.

What’s Perry’s cash on hand? From what I understand he has blown through over 10 million in the past few months on commercials.

1st I wanted Sarah Palin...but then she announced she was not running. Then I wanted Herman Cain...but he was completely savaged by unsubstantiated, false claims that put enough pressure on his family and particularly his wife to see him withdraw. I like Perry a lot. I do not like that he, in his core, believes that we are somehow not compassionate if we send the illegals home...all of them...and that he is willing to use state funds from taxpayers to fund their children getting in state tuition status, even though they are here illegally. I understand all of his reasoning, but that moment of his, telling us we did not have a heart because we want to do what is right and legal by our country...put me off. As did his meeting with La Raza in the 2010 election. Outside of that, however, I can say I genuinely like him and could support him.

I also like Santorum. He is consistant and unwavering on what I condier to be the most important underlying issues...the moral issues our nation faces. Particularluy abortion and the homosexual agnenda to desytroy the traditional family. However, I really was upset and it still leaves a very sour taste that he came out and supported Spectre and threw Toomey under the bus. Pure politics and big party politics is what that reaked of. Also, his votes for earmarks do not sit well with me at all. Having said that, on other issues he is very conservative and someone I can also support.

Romney is my last choice. I will support him against Obama because I honestly feel he will be much better for the nation than that avowed marxist, Obama. I believe he will do well economically and I believe we can pull him along on conservative issues. He is an abject politician who uses words and meaning to get his way politically. I believe that he personally has always been against abortion, but used language in a democratic state to the extent that he said that since the Supreme Court had decided the issue then he would support the law and not try and overturn it so he could get elected in Mass. Now, running for the GOP Presidential ticket he has changed his wording accordingly and politically. Having said that, I believe we will be able to hold his feet to the fire with a Tea Party oriented House and Senate...which we must also have anyway.

Right now, Santorum, Perry, Bachman (though she seems poised to get out), Gingrich and then Romney is my pecking order...though Perry may get out too. I really hope he does not because I believe come SC and FL he will rebound significantly.

Only Rick Perry has run a campaign to make Washington “as inconsequential to our lives as possible.”

Ron Paul?

Anyone else curious about the write ins last night? I think I heard that Huckabee had 59 votes. I would think both Palin and Cain would have had some. I doubt we’ll hear anything from the media.

The only candidates likely to consider dropping out are Bachmann and Perry.

Bachmann should drop out. I never had much confidence in her experience level. She is a congresswoman from a previously unknown district in Minnesota.

She was first elected in Nov 2006...IOW, she has only 5 years in the House of Representatives.

Five Years. That is a bare resume. Maybe 10 years from now she’ll have the resume, given that she has the right beliefs. I want her to hold onto her house seat. That is a critical issue and she should focus on it. I wish her only the best.

Rick PERRY

Rick is a different story. Given there’s no way that Gingrich and Santorum are dropping out, Perry’s dropping out would, with BAchmann’s supporters, throw some significant support in the Gingrich’s and Santorum’s direction. On the other hand, Perry’s 10% isn’t that much different than Gingrich’s 13%.

I can see him choosing either, but I heard his voice questioning last night whether he should continue.

That’s between God and Perry. I pray for the man that he listens to the Lord’s promptings in his heart one way or the other. I like Rick Perry.

Gingrich: dirty baggage and all, Gingrich is formidable, and probably our strongest standing candidate. He was misguided not to go after Romney sooner. I’m surprised he doesn’t realize that it’s only liberal commentators who whine about “attacks” when their liberal candidate is being hit. He needs to hit Romney ceaselessly between now and Florida.

I firmly believe he’d govern as a conservative because he always has.

Santorum

I’ve met Santorum, and at the time, I thought, “this man is a gifted public speaker. He displayed some of that impromptu last night. The final stuff about his disabled child might well have melted Sarah Palin’s own heart.

I loved his focus on manufacturing because he’s right: it’s not like Wal-Mart, Krogers, Abblebees, and Lowes are shipping their retail jobs overseas.

But, I guarantee you that our manufacturing base is dying. I spent my entire Christmas trying to buy made-in-America goods, and I had a horrendous time finding products. Electronics is gone. Small tools and appliances virtually gone. Clothing and shoes is gone.

I am not interested only in stopping the outflow of our manufacturing base; I am focused on getting back what we’ve lost.

Obviously, it is a national security issue as much as a national prosperity issue.

Spending and earmarks are Santorum’s problems, and I’ve a satisfactory answer for both for me. On spending, he had to support GWBush’s initiatives and each campaign season had to recognize his presence in a blue state. On earmarks, I believe in my senator and congressman bringing my tax money back to my state and district. If I can’t keep it, then getting it spent here instead of in NYCity is just fine with me. Others can take or leave those explanations. I’ll not have my feelings hurt.

In short, I can support either of the big 3: Gingrich, Santorum, or Perry.

Paul and Romney are, of course, anathema. I will work to defeat either of the two.

Chin up, I hope Governor Perry will see the consequences of his ending his campaign. I know the sacrifices will be great, but he has to stop Murdoch from picking our president. Santorum will be funded and Sarah of Fox will be by his side.
This is the fight that Ronald Reagan fought. This is the establishment lining up against the best candidate. This is the battle Sarah Palin surrendered. This is what Cain was all about. Governor Perry was singled out for headline-seeking criticism by the Cain camp.

We have to have a Conservative in the White House. God bless America.

If I were Perry, I’d wake up tomorrow, say I refuse to surrender the Republican Party into the hands of big government conservatives,,,,

When did conservatives start campaigning for bigger government?

It is the RNC Elites who like big government.

It’s Bush’s fault this field sucks? Really? Was blaming Clinton too lame for you? And if so, why? It’s not really that much less lame.

It’s not Bush’s fault this field sucks. It’s not Palin’s fault this field sucks. It’s this field’s fault this field sucks.

Santorum spent $1 per vote? He has practically lived in Iowa for months, visited every farm and tavern, probably knows everyone’s sister-in-law there. He apparently has no job despite having tons of kids to support and care for. Wouldn’t we all like to do that? What is he living on? How is he affording this $1 per vote?? Our money from his Senate days I guess?? Sorry but $1 per vote is not true any way you count it.

What a stupid column!

Bush’s fault? ROTFLOL.

Mitch Daniels didn’t run. He and his wife decided they didn’t want the media trashing them.

Chris Christie didn’t run. He said he wasn’t ready and loves NJ.

Sarah Palin didn’t run. Prayerful decision made by her and her family. Likely tired of media trashing and death threats.

Bush’s fault? Give us a break!

Place the blame where it belongs; the vicious lamestream and gutter politics where anything and everything goes, including trashing of the candidates children, provided they’re Republicans.

Nothing is off limits, even by wealthy rivals with an unquenchable thirst for power and armed with unlimited funds to scorch the earth with vicious ads, and yes I’m speaking about Romney.

Bush’s fault? In so much as GHWB endorsed him, I reckon....LOL.
