Bachmann Defector Rejects Claim of Being Bought Off by Paul Camp

The former Michele Bachmann supporter who defected to the Ron Paul team this week said he was "never offered a nickel" by Paul's campaign, disputing the Minnesota congresswoman's claim that he was bought off.

Iowa state Sen. Kent Sorenson, who was a Bachmann Iowa co-chairman before he resigned Wednesday and endorsed Paul, accused Bachmann of fabricating a story about a conversation they had before he bolted. Bachmann had said in a radio interview Thursday that Sorsenson told her he was offered "a lot of money" by Paul's people.

"That's why he left," Bachmann claimed, repeating an allegation she made the night before.

But Sorsenson told Fox News on Thursday "that conversation did not happen."

Asked if he was offered money to leave Bachmann, he said, "absolutely not."

Per Wes Enos Bachmann's Political Director in Iowa:

“I won’t say much about the situation or the conflicting statements beyond this; I can say unequivocally that Kent Sorenson’s decision was, in no way financially motivated. His decision had more to do with the fact that the Ron Paul supporters have been something of a family to him since he was first elected in 2008 and here in the end, as it becomes more and more apparent that the caucus cycle is coming to an end, Kent believed that he needed to be with them as they stand on the cusp of a potential caucus upset. While I personally disagree with Kent’s decision, and plan to stay with Michele Bachmann because I truly believe in her, I cannot, in good conscious watch a good man like Kent Sorenson be attacked as a 'sell-out' ….That is simply not the case, and it was not the basis of his decision,” said Mr. Enos.

Bachmann is a good rep. Her presidential campaign will be over after Iowa.

You’re right, she is a good rep. Any hopefully she will still be in the HOR for the next several years and her run for presidency doesn’t tarnish her status in her district.

The woman who ran Kent Sorenson's last two campaigns said the same thing Michelle said - he was offered money (bribed) to defect to Paul.
Iowans may want to rethink having Sorenson in their state legislature - he may be legal, but not very ethical (nice going Ron Paul - nice crew ya' got there).

Base disloyalty like this is not appreciated in political circles. I’d say his career is over.

I just saw her and she said she doesn’t KNOW his motives...except for what she heard from the bachmann camp. It IS the fact that sorenson betrayed bachmann in a rather underhanded way, but the accusation of money changing hands is a bachmann default accusation and sorenson isn’t the only one she has accused. bachmann is ALSO a notorious liar.

I like her voting record in Congress and hope she keeps her seat there. Otherwise I agree w/ you, she is in over her head. Also, it’s hard to see how someone who can’t even keep staff in her Congressional office is going to be an effective president.

"...bachmann is ALSO a notorious liar..."

That goes for every human on this planet, why skewer Michelle for it?
Romney - liar, Gingrich - liar, Paul - liar, Perry - liar, Santorum - once thought about lying....

You think McCain’s disloyal staff is out on their ear after what they did to Palin? I doubt loyality matters much to politicans - the vast majority of whom are not loyal themselves.

My impression is that redistricting has altered her district in a way that makes that unlikely, and that she was not running again. Not as a vindictive thing against her, more because her seat was going to be open.

I may be misremembering.

But I find it most likely that she is destined for a career as a speaker/author/talking head outside of Congress.

Didn’t know about the changes in her district. Makes sense.
