Angry former ATF chief blames subordinates for Fast and Furious
Los Angeles Times ^ | 12/24/11 | Richard A. Serrano

Posted on 12/25/2011 3:09:20 AM PST by AtlasStalled

In a confidential deposition with congressional investigators, the then-head of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives blamed agents, field supervisors and even his top command for never advising him that for more than a year, his agency allowed illegal gun sales along the southwestern U.S. border. * * * Once Fast and Furious broke into public view, Melson said, Justice officials strenuously objected when he wanted to disclose everything to Congress. "We were floating the idea and asking them to allow us to do that," he said. But he said he was told "it is a long-standing policy of the Department of Justice that we don't talk about ongoing cases."

When you are the boss the “buck stops here.”

No matter what, he is to blame since he was head of the department. He was further to blame since he knew about it and did not go to Congress over the pressure of others in management.

It’s quite apparent he made head of the department based on politics, not ability to manage.

“Justice officials strenuously objected when he wanted to disclose everything to Congress.”

Of course—because they need to be tried for murder and running guns. Need to be in prison—and they know it!

This is an attempt to confine it to Melson to get Holder and obama off the hook.

Nothing more than a CYA story. The whole damn bunch of Buckwheat’s band of merry robbers (Including Buckwheat himself) are neck deep in this coverup and we all know it. It is time to dump them and then put them all into prison.

Sadly, like was mentioned previosuly, NOTHING will happen to them, no matter how long the “investigation” goes on.

What a sad day for America!

But B. Todd Jones, Melson's replacement as acting director of the agency, said in an interview that Melson allowed overzealous field agents and supervisors to go beyond approved tactics. Pointing out that the ATF has had five acting directors in the last six years, Jones said the resulting weak management structure has given some field agents a license to operate independently of Washington.

Well, there you go. It was those rogue field agents who decided to sell thousands of weapons to the cartels. It had nothing to do with us bigwigs.

And, five acting directors in six years? Nobody wanted the job? Or, was it deliberately a revolving door, a built-in excuse?

...Justice officials strenuously objected when he wanted to disclose everything to Congress.

So which officials exactly, by name, were those Mr. Melson?
Oh, nobody asked that question. My bad. never mind.

Multi agency coodination.

Including the L.A. Times as it seems here. The paper is trying to cover up the scandal as much as possible.

But scandal is what drives the media and the paper is acting against its own best interests. The job of the media is to attract viewers to its advertisers.

The advertisers are the Major source of revenue for the media. So this is just another example of the media not doing its job.

Instead of having a show called "Movies that Don't Suck", how about having "Media that Doesn't Suck".

Started six years ago. Hint! Hint!

Building the case that Bush did it! then finally! the story will get legs in Obama's servile, complaisant undistinguished media (SCUM).

"It's been tough on people, tough on morale. And yet I think we are pulling the car out of the ditch."

Hot damn! Almost there! Bush drove the car into the ditch -- just like Obama said! Obama's SCUM have verified that many, many, many times. Mmmm, mmmm, mmm.

Obama Justice Department wanted to disclose everything to Congress. "We were floating the idea and asking them to allow us to do that," he said. But he said he was told "it is a long-standing policy of the Department of Justice that we don't talk about ongoing cases."

Bingo! Long-standing! It's Bush's fault!

Obama SCUM doing the Blame Bush Boogie.

Nice catch, philman_36.

Propagandists, progressives and agenda-driven, pre-meditated murder (it didn’t matter who).

“Democratic California Sen. Dianne Feinstein told a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing that lax gun control laws, not Obama administration malfeasance within the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATF), was the real problem uncovered by Operation Fast and Furious.”

“My concern, Mr. Chairman, is there’s been a lot said about Fast and Furious, and perhaps mistakes were made, but I think this hunt for blame doesn’t really speak about the problem,” Feinstein said during the Tuesday hearing. “And the problem is, anybody can walk in and buy anything, .50-caliber weapons, sniper weapons, buy them in large amounts, and send them down to Mexico. So, the question really becomes, what do we do about this?”

Cowardly cover-up. Wait and see what his former subordinates have to say. They will squeal loader than brakes of the bus that just ran over them.
