Tea Party Leaders: Rand Paul is Wrong on Newt Gingrich
US News and World Report ^ | 12/10/2011 | Mallie Jane Kim

Posted on 12/10/2011 10:11:49 AM PST by katiedidit1

Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul's media blitz bashing former House Speaker Newt Gingrich as unworthy of Tea Party support isn't hitting its mark, at least not among leaders of the Tea Party Express, Tea Party Patriots, and Tea Party Nation.

"I want people to go out there and work for who they believe in," says Tea Party Express Chairman Amy Kremer, who says she or any individual shouldn't dictate who people in the movement ought to vote for.

"These people are intelligent. They're not just sheeple that are following somebody," Kremer says, adding that Tea Partyers haven't coalesced behind one candidate yet. "They are looking at the issues; they're researching."

Who do you support? I can’t speak for ALL the Newt supporters..only for myself. Have watched every debate and watched intensely; have read Newt’s solutions and also his site on NewtGingrichAnswersAttacks. Have looked at the remaining candidates...Huntsman, Paul, Santorum, Bachmann and Romney and concluded that Newt is the best man for America. I know all about Newt’s baggage and I also know his record as Speaker of the House. I am 100% behind Newt..and who do you support?

newt isn’t worthy of any form of tea party endorsement. If the tea party folks talking like they endorse newt as a tea party candidate, I will have Zero respect for the tea party.

>> Everything else about the man is superhuman awesome, why not that? >>

What a ridiculous statement. Nowhere have I seen a Newt supporter who thought he was perfect by any stretch. Quite the contrary. Most of the 35% (give or take) who support Newt now were part of the 95% who did not when he as at 5% - meaning they all knew of his problems.

But, in life, folks with extraordinary abilities and accomplishments get passes on more foibles than those of average ability and accomplishments. That’s just the way life is.

Newt has tremendous accomplishments and tremendous abilities - and the 35% or so who are support him now are simply saying that those plusses trump his minuses.

Now agree or disagree is fine. But when you characterize Newt supporters as not knowing or admitting his flaws, you simply show ignorance of what is going on.

http://www.therightscoop.com/mark-levin-denounces-smear-attacks-on-newt-gingrich/

12-6-2011

I have to tell you that I’m looking at these attacks on Newt Gingrich, as an example, and I’m very troubled by them. They go beyond substantive and intellectual analysis of the man’s record, into attacking what people are claiming are some kind of psychosis and so forth, really smearing the guy. Really smearing the guy. OK?

I’ve said it before and I want to say it again. Every single one of our candidates is head and shoulders over Obama. Every single one of them loves this country, loves the Constitution, loves our economic system. They’re imperfect in many ways in their personal lives, some more than others, and in their policy positions over the decades, absolutely.

But I do know this! Not one of them is a Marxist. Not one of them seeks the destruction of the private sector. Not one of them seeks to massively increase the central government.

Now I have strong disagreements with several of them. But I do not believe that when we are eleven months away from the most important election in my lifetime, where Newt Gingrich may well be the nominee – and I’m making no predictions – that all the trashing and attacking and opposition research that’s being used, not to challenge his positions, but to character assassinate him, to absolutely destroy him.

I’m not joining in on that! As a matter of fact, I’m denouncing it!

Because if he is our nominee, I intend to fight with 100% of my energy to get that man elected, good, bad, and indifferent!

We think for ourselves and I can tell you that the vast majority of people in our Tea Party will not vote for Gingrich or Romney or Paul.

You crack me up. In the very same sentence you claim that people think for themselves and then go right ahead and monolithically speak for them all just like Paul tried to.

You also claim the Tea Party has no leaders and them boldly proclaim yourself as "The Founder of the Mansfield North Central Ohio Tea Party Association" and speak for your whole organization. You brought a smile to my face :)

Get ready to have zero respect then. A little history lesson for you: the pre cursor to the tea party? It’s called the Contract with America. Author and instigator? Newt Gingrich.

Last balanced budget we had? Passed by Gingrich as Speaker.
Last welfare reform we had? Ditto’s.

For all his flaws, Newt has been deeply involved and indeed central with all of the plusses that the last movement anything like the tea party of today was involved with.

Just sayin.......

Sadly there's a lot of misinformation in Rand Paul's article.

Newt's certainly not unapologetically in support of the individual mandate and abandoned the concept just as the Heritage Foundation did. Romney insists it's viable at the state level.

Rand Paul conveniently uses the lower case 'c' conservative on Scozzafava's opponent when he was actually not a Republican but a Conservative Party candidate. It's a slight of hand to make it seem Newt chose a RINO over a conservative Republican candidate rather than supporting the Republican nominee over another party's choice.

Newt has his own responses on the the individual mandate, TARP, lobbying and Freedie Mac, even Scozzafava

I didn't realize Kool-Aid has become the official drink of the Tea Party. Newt Gingrich is many times better than Barack Obama (and I will vote for him if he is the nominee) but big-government loving Newt is no conservative.

My sentiments exactly!

Yes. Levin is very forthright about what he does not like about Newt. That being said...he does not intend to crucify our frontrunner who may be able to win against Obama. He actually wants Bachmann and/or Santorum and prefers them. They just have not gotten any traction yet.

If true, then the tea party is a sham, and I am done with it. However, I don’t take anything from you as fact.
