Fox Business News Calls Muppets Communist; Debate Goes Viral
A segment on the network was highlighted by Media Matters, reigniting a conversation about whether or not there are political messages in children's movies.
If you Googled news about Muppets on Monday you were treated to hundreds of news stories and blog items debating whether Disneys lovable creatures were Communists or not. You can thank Fox Business News and Media Matters for that.
Eric Bolling of Follow the Money set the stage on Friday when he hosted a 7-minute segment that argued that The Muppets film featuring bad-guy oilman Tex Richman -- promotes a left-wing agenda.
Were teaching our kids class warfare. Where are we, Communist China? Bolling said.
That line along with the rest of the conversation irked Media Matters, the progressive watchdog group and No. 1 enemy of Fox News Channel and sister channel FBN. So on Monday it slapped its logo on a video of the segment and sent it around the Internet.
Liberal Hollywood depicting a successful businessman as evil thats not new, Bolling said while introducing his first guest, Dan Gainor of the Media Research Center, a conservative watchdog organization.
Its amazing how far the left will go just to stop to manipulate your kids, Gainor said, to convince them to give them the anti-corporate message.
Is liberal Hollywood, asks Bolling, using class warfare to kind of brainwash our kids?
Gainor answers in the affirmative and lists as examples Ted Turners Captain Planet and the Planeteers, Disneys Cars 2 and Nickelodeons The Big Green Help.
Ultimately, what theyre telling kids is what they told you in the movie The Matrix: that mankind is a virus on poor, old Mother Earth, Gainor said.
Bollings next guest agreed. Its brainwashing in the most obvious form, right? I just wish liberals could leave little kids alone, said Andrea Tantaros, co-host of The Five on Fox News.
The Washington Post picked apart the argument, as did the New York Daily News. The item got the most traction, though, at more partisan outlets on both ends of the political spectrum.
Painting businessmen as evil isnt anything new. And it would certainly fall in line with a liberal Hollywood message, a writer at Glenn Becks The Blaze wrote.
In Hollywood, daring to cast a Muslim character can be considered a hate crime, but repeatedly casting businessmen, Christians and Southerners as villains is enlightened, says an item at Andrew Breitbarts Big Hollywood.
The Blaze and Big Hollywood are both on the right. Examples on the left include:
Gothamist.com: Oh, Fox Business News, never change. In one of those if it werent real we would think it were an Onion story moments, Fox Business show Follow the Money recenty had a segment in which they warn that the new Muppets movie is going to brainwash our children into socialist plushies.
The Huffington Post: It aint easy being green, but according to Fox Business, Kermit the Frog and his Muppet friends are reds . The Teletubbies were unavailable for comment. Mahna-Mahna.
Others weighing in on the hot debate were MSNBC, Perez Hilton, Entertainment Weekly and Slate.
Drudge already linked the news story that pedophilia is rampant in Hollywood, including a perv who worked for Sesame Street.

Sexual perversion and communism just seem to always dovetail togeher ...
David Brock bends over for Soros and Kermit.
Forget the Muppets. What about the democrats?
Would that make Bert and Ernie Gay Commies?
Good grief.... Words fail me...
I don’t know if they are commies but they are tools to child molestation.
There is a thread with that story.
Tip of the Iceberg is an understatement, sex with the kids is probably acceptable in Hollyweird.
Was that from the day they taught the kiddies about “taxes”?

Hollyweird child sex charges “tip of iceberg”
It’s not just Hollywood that’s encouraging pedophilia, ESPN encouraged it with their defense of Joe Paterno. They were never once repulsed by the fact that children’s lives were destroyed by that creep Jerry Sandusky. Tolerance for sexual deviancy has permeated our culture through the media.
What is media matter’s point? Everything Bolling said was true. Was that the point?
Do a you tube search for Disney and racist and hidden messages and you will be astounded as to how racist Donald duck was in his day.
Serious lee . . . goatse was bad enough, but you have to subject us to frogse?
That’s how it goes at Media Splatters: “evil righty” speaks the truth, and this is how mad they get at it without being able to debunk it.
They always like to ridicule anyone who is onto them but the left is definitely diabolical in its infiltration and indoctrination. They love to act like we who catch on are living in the cold war days and see communism in everything due to our phobias. Have you guys noticed how everything we may disagree with now is called phobic instead of just not agreeing with it? The other night, I saw the OWS video on ustream and one of the protestors ran up to someone with a red flag and asked what it meant as everyone kept asking what it meant. The guy holding the flag looked guarded and said “class struggle.” The guy who asked the question said “Oh! OK! Someone on the chat typed in “Red Flag=Class Struggle=Marxism.”
the creep that invented them is a long hair hippy piece of garbage!
I personally insulted him when he asked me where the muppets were when I was installing a canopy on the Ambasador hotel entry and I responded “what’s a muppet, a hairlip puppet?”
I was serious, I had no idea what a muppet was and still don’t.
The new Muppets movie certainly put an interesting spin on the “drill here drill now” idea. In the movie the evil oil tycoon was going to buy the original Muppets studio, which was a museum, and tear it down to put in an evil oil drilling rig.
This movie will succeed in poisening the American public against Republican candidates who want to increase our domestic production. You wouldn’t want to drill through some froggie’s home.
meat + puppet ==> muppet
