Any idea when this was broadcasted?
I guess around 12/1...
Some mid-level general/college professor showing he has one too.
So Obama’s friendliness towards Australia was a strategic war move!
Well, Australia’s one of our allies, and has been since... forever.
Sounds like they might be getting tougher against opposition inside China.
Tough crap, China.
Iran is going to be dealt with sooner or later, whether China likes it or not.
I watched the entire report. It was excellent and in-depth; much superior to the sound bites we get from CNN/NBC et. al. This is not a threat by the Chinese government. Although its certain that the Chinese news is produced in concert with their policy guidelines and probably with an on-site government censor, a quote from a Chinese professor does not constitute official policy. If you read carefully, the report goes on to back off from the this-will-cause-a-war rhetoric.
If this were intended as a serious warning to the US the quote would have come from somebody higher up the food chain. Quotes from college professors are 30 to the US dollar. They could have picked and chosen any flavor they wanted. As far as diplomacy goes, this message is in the noise.
This isn’t 1950. The Chinese have something to lose this time.
But they just might invade Taiwan. Or, “can the dragon swim?”
China might use an attack against Iran as a pretext for going into the Middle East.
Fk lets do it then chicoms. Im sick of their backward ass regime trying to bully people. Im just over alot of things in the world at this point in my life. China try it and your cities will be vaporized as well.
China has been openly telling it’s own people to prepare for war with the USA for 25-30 years. There’s been numerous articles posted here on FR about it.
I think there is no need to invade Taiwan. The two are coming closer as businesses on both sides promote two way trade.
The process allows quasi hegemonic appearance, enough to reduce the tension while not actually doing much at all.
The report is much more balanceded that one would have expected in earlier times. It actually mentions all the problems China faces internally, and quotes one man as saying that international bluster may be a way of dealing with internal problems.
China always supports the most hideous regimes (Iran, Chavez in Venezuela, North Korea, Mugabe in Zimbabwe, &c.). This may be partly just to distract the West. In any case, unless the Chinese deal with us reasonably, we should ignore them.
On the other hand, we have no right to tell the Chinese how to manage their currency, when we can’t handle our own finances. We have real problems at home, too, and we also should not be exporting blame where it does not belong.
Our problem so far is not communists in China, but communists in the USA.
If we have WWIII with China does that mean a trade embargo? Or does Free Trade uber alles take precedence over everything, even World War? /sarcasm
My nominee for post of the day!
Dealt with when...before or after they acquire a nuclear weapon? =.=
