Florida state Sen. John Thrasher, a member of Romney’s advisory committee, said he also feels confident in the candidate’s structural advantages, but he thinks the campaign needs to respond to Gingrich’s rise with vigor.
“There’s going to be some need to explain his positions,” Thrasher said, noting that Gingrich’s past views on global warming “won’t sit well with the base.”

Romney’s strategy is to wait it out and hope that he remains on top - the beltway GOP selection. The MSM can only protect him for so long. He is their hopeful that will cause most of the conservative voters to either stay home or vote for an obscure candidate (their definition).
This time it is NOT going to work because enough of Americans (Conservatives and others) have become a bit more aware of the situation - thanks to the internet and Obama.

Hahaha what a joke. That is actually what Newt has been doing with Newt even praising the other Republican candidates. Seems to me I remember Romney going after Rick Perry in particular and attacking other candidates. That statement is such a farce.
