ALBERT EDWARDS: I Just Got Back From America, And Boy, Is It Getting Bad!

Hilarious note today from SocGen's ultra-bearish strategist Albert Edwards.

Evidently he just got back from the US, and was pretty appalled.

I've recently returned from a marketing trip to the U.S. I hadn't quite appreciated how dangerous it is getting out there. We are all becoming familiar with the rise in social tensions in this post-bubble world. But I had not quite appreciated that in this more insecure world we now inhabit, owning a firearm would become so normal.

A recent Gallup U.S. Crime Poll survey shows that gun ownership in the U.S. has soared. Some 47% of American adults report they have a gun in their home or on their property up sharply from 41% a year ago and the highest recorded since 1993. For U.S. this side of the pond, we find these numbers absolutely staggering and somewhat scary. Had I known this before my trip, I might have purchased the executive, lightweight bullet proof vest that one of our Italian salesmen modeled for me on an earlier trip to Milan.

Two other things really stood out in the survey. Over the last two years gun ownership among Democrats (including Independents who lean towards the Democrats) surged a staggering 10 percentage points from 30% to 40%, while Republican ownership was essentially unchanged ... Second, the number of women who reported household gun ownership also surged by 10 percentage points to 43%, whereas male ownership was essentially unchanged. I'm really not sure what this all means, except clearly female Democrats appear to be a lot more uncomfortable with the reality of the Ice Age than male Republicans do.

America is more dangerous?

Apparently Al hasn’t noticed the violent crime rate has been going down here, unlike the UK, I might point out.

Ok, I’m officially confused now. I can see gun ownership going up for many reasons crime and the police becoming a reporting agency and such things included. But an ICE AGE?

Does anyone know what he is writing about?

Even he doesn’t know what he’s writing about. And his editor needs to attend a few classes.

I’m reminded of the Nine Inch Nails / David Bowie song “I’m afraid of americans”.

Good, Stay the hell out of America, Socialist weenies.

I wouldn’t worry about the 10% rise in Democrat ownership. They’ll most likely end up accidentally shooting themselves.

WHAT??? People defending themselves "in this more insecure world" just doesn't make sense when every smart elite lib knows the government will take care of them. Yeah, they'll take care of 'em.

Sounds like he missed the week long riots, burnings, looting and violence that swept much of England earlier this year.

The violent crime rate in London is the worst in the world. Even worse than South Africa!

Well for one thing: the male Republicans already had guns. The female Democrats are just getting them now because even some of the nitwits eventually see the importance of self-protection.

And another thing: It's worse than you think. North Carolina has just passed a series of strong Castle Doctrine laws, and other states are poised to follow suit! So gun and ammo sales are going up up up!

Those who like to be at the mercy of The Government--and those inclined to rape and plunder at will--might like settling and/or hunkering down in Jolly Old England, where the Castle Doctrine has been de facto repealed.

Those who like to sleep soundly in their beds--knowning that the kiddies are safe and sleeping soundly too, will prefer the other side of the pond.

Then stay on your side of the Pond, Albert, you criminal-appeasing metrosexual pants-pisser. If you behave yourself, you are no more in danger from my pistol than I am. Properly-functioning guns don't go off by themselves. Oh, I forgot, in your nancified society, nobody has any experience with guns, so you don't know that. I learned it at age 4, and so did my kids.

Hoplophobes. Stay out of my path.

Hm, I wonder when we’ll hear tales of English Pirates. (Avast, me hearties!)

LOL! An Italian vest might stop those poofter 9mm but won't do squat against the American .45 or .44Mag.

;-)
