NH voters think Perry can rise above mistakes

DERRY — Texas Gov. Rick Perry may be dropping in the polls, but some New Hampshire voters are confident he'll still be a viable candidate in the presidential primary Jan. 10...

Voters who listened to Perry speak at the Greater Salem Chamber of Commerce event last night said they were impressed with what they heard.

The voters, who came from across the state, also said they think Perry can weather the criticism his candidacy has received and still play a vital role in the first-in-the-nation primary.

Those in the crowd included Salem Selectman Michael Lyons and Salem Budget Committee member Patrick McDougall.

McDougall, a Romney supporter, said Perry was convincing.

"He sounded really impressive on some of the issues," McDougall said.

McDougall said he particularly agrees with Perry's strong stance on illegal immigration. "I do feel it's an issue that a lot of people in the country are concerned about," McDougall said. "It does concern me that we have illegal immigrants who are stealing jobs from American workers."

But the key issue for most Granite State residents is creating jobs and jump-starting the economy — Romney's main platform, he said.

Perry also focused last night on stabilizing the economy and ending multimillion-dollar bailouts. He also called for deregulating the federal government and received applause when he called for a "part-time Congress."

Biz Corrow of Sandown said he hasn't decided who to vote for, but liked Perry's message.

"It's true and to the heart," he said.

Corrow thinks Perry will still be in the race in January — despite his miscues.

"He's had a couple of mistakes," Corrow said. "I felt for him."

McDougall said Perry will rise above the poor debate performances.

"I think the American people, in general, can forgive him for the few mistakes he has made along the way," he said.

Emmanuel Hooper, 53, came from Portsmouth to hear Perry speak. He intends to vote for him in the primary.

"He really speaks from the heart," Hooper said.

"He is very authentic. I would like to see him win."

But Perry hasn't been treated fairly by the media, he said.

"He is human," Hooper said. "I think his flubs have been blown out of proportion."

Perry will address lawmakers today in Concord, where they may vote to override Gov. John Lynch's veto of right-to work legislation.

"This state is right on the verge of becoming a real crown jewel as a job-creation state," Perry said. "That right-to-work law will do that."

Rick Perry on Congressional Insider Trading [:24]

******************

Nov. 13, 2011: “Pelosi fires back at ‘60 Minutes’ report on ‘soft corruption’”

“Pelosi and her husband participated in an initial public offering of Visa in 2008, according to CBS. They bought 5,000 shares at the initial price of $44; two days later, shares were trading at $64, CBS said.”.......... Source

Pelosi Bashes Catholics: 'They Have This Conscience Thing'... “After having some of her behind the scenes shenanigans exposed, Nancy Pelosi has turned to her friends in the MSM to help her with damage control. The effect is something akin to watching what scrambles out after you overturn a large rock.

Pelosi sought to defend herself from allegations that she and her husband made millions from insider trading in what the Washington Post calls a wide ranging interview……..

……Pelosi added a startling, if inadvertent, admission. Addressing the effects such [ObamaCare] legislation would have on Catholic health care providers, Pelosi said:

"I'm a devout Catholic and I honor my faith and love it . . . but they have this conscience thing."…….

Seems some of the GOP candidates have "conscience" blackouts.

Iowans for Christian Leaders in Government Put Presser on Vander Plaats

......" In 2006, Mr. Nussle ran for Governor and asked that you serve as his running mate; an offer you willfully accepted.

In the nineties, Mr. Nussle’s current wife was working for Mr. Gingrich; while Mr. Gingrich’s current wife was working for a committee which Mr. Nussle served on in the House of Representatives.

Furthermore, both men were married when they began affairs with each other’s staff members – all while Mr. Gingrich was leading the investigation into Bill Clinton’s extramarital affair with Monica Lewinsky. This is an unfortunate irony.

More importantly, it points to a willful disregard of personal behavior and you are forever linked to both of these candidates in a way that is unacceptable for many of us who demand Christian leadership.

Which brings us to our next concern."....

If the primary were today, I’d be voting for Perry.

I believe a lot of voters will start coming to the same realization.

“Texas Gov. Rick Perry may be dropping in the polls, but...”

You can’t drop in the polls when your poll number IS the same as the margin of error.

Cain's backers warily consider Gingrich ......"But an indication of discomfort in some quarters over Gingrich's rise came Tuesday when a new attack on the former House speaker surfaced online from a group calling itself Iowans for Christian Leaders in Government.

...."Newt is famous for being all over the board," Cary Gordon, an influential pastor from Sioux City, Iowa, told the Des Moines Register. "He is admirable in many ways, but I won't back him. I don't trust him."

Cain, for his part, told senior staff members in a Tuesday conference call that he was assessing whether the affair allegations "create too much of a cloud" for his campaign to continue.

.....Grubbs seemed bothered by a statement released Monday by Cain's attorney, Lin Wood, who said a candidate's "private sexual life" is not the business of the public or the media."...........

Has this new story had much print here yet? Or is it hot off the presses? I don’t even read Cain or Newt threads.

The most recent Rasmussen poll in NH (11/28) has Perry at 2%. So if NH voters really do believe Perry can rise above his mistakes they still don’t want him as their president.

Power and soul struggle: Vander Plaats Says He's Still Searching for Clarity (Iowa FAMiLY leader endorsement angst) …………..”Sources familiar with the meetings at Walnut Creek Church have indicated that the goal of the meeting is to come to a conclusion as to which candidate social conservatives should rally behind. In the first meeting there was no consensus, but when they met for a second time, a new candidate rating system was unveiled. What TheIowaRepublican.com was told is that Bachmann received the highest ranking with 36 points, followed by Santorum with 35.5, Perry with 34, and Gingrich with 31.5.

It’s unknown who created the criteria and what it all entails, but the meeting has a large contingent of Bachmann supporters. The reason why this is important is because TheIowaRepublican.com was told that this group has been charged with making a recommendation to the FAMiLY Leader’s board before they decide on who they will endorse. When asked why his board of directors cannot make a decision on their own, Vander Plaats admitted that the board will seek the input of others, and added that, “Wisdom comes in a multitude of counsel.”

Since showering praise on Gingrich in an interview with the Des Moines Register following the forum, social conservatives leaders around the state have been grumbling about what they think is a likelihood that Vander Plaats may endorse Gingrich.

Yesterday, an anonymous letter from a group called Iowans for Christian Leaders in Government distributed an open letter that they had sent Vander Plaats warning him about the negative ramifications that endorsing Gingrich would bring. The letter stated that Vander Plaats’ endorsement “may be guided, not by prayer and conviction, but by personal benefit and prior relationships.”

Vander Plaats traveled the state in 2008 to advocate on behalf Gingrich’s American Solutions. Gingrich also provided financial support to Vander Plaats’ effort to defeat three Iowa Supreme Court justices last fall. Vander Plaats also received financial support from the American Family Association and worked with Wayne Hamilton, a key Perry aide. …………

While Vander Plaats and the FAMiLY Leader are still searching for clarity, there is one thing he was very clear about. The process is more difficult because their goal is not to just find a candidate who can beat President Obama next fall, but this candidate also needs to be able to beat Mitt Romney.

The only question for Vander Plaats and the FAMiLY Leader is, what kind of candidate will best accomplish that goal? A surefire conservative whose core convictions match theirs, or a candidate who already has momentum or has the connections that may pay dividends down the road?”

Perry's most recent mortifying mistake was *in* N.H.

"Speaking at Saint Anselm College on Tuesday, Rick Perry appealed to students who will be at least 21 before Election Day to vote for him. It turns out Perry didn't know or had forgotten that the voting age in America is 18. "

Perry was asking college students for their vote -- then made a complete fool of himself by writing off the very people who he was trying to win over?

lol! It's no wonder he is polling a 2%.

Obama misspoke on the number of U.S. states.....media crickets...hummmmmm.

Perry can’t misspeak w/o it being a running headline. They really fear him.

Yes, they fear a candidate who is polling at 2%.

Whatever they pay you for saying these crazy things it can't be enough. Thanks for the laugh, though.

Are Conservatives Ready to Forgive Newt Gingrich His Sins? ………..”If Newt can withstand the rehashing of Tom Coburn’s book — a book that portrays Gingrich as talking the talk, but betraying the talk once in office — we may have our anti-Romney. If not, I think Rick Perry may yet have a second coming if he is ready. I say that having asked many callers to my radio show who are Cain supporters where they would go. Most say Newt. The others Perry. And if Newt implodes? They almost always say they’d go to Perry — Romney is rarely their choice.”…….
