Nothing illegal found:

The body armor was standard Marine Issue (his at discharge), the Handgun was registered, the Rifle was as well, and the USBP hat could have been purchased at any AZ gas station.
Its not clear in your post and smacks of editoritating.
I'm intrigued that nothing has come of this one way or another; smacks of some on-going investigation having implications as far reaching as "national security".
If the latter is true, then things can't continue on in the same vein for too much longer w/out repercussions. If not, then the conclusion is none other than LEO corruption.
Either of those options will come unglued (in the long run).
