Any of you people who say it would be possible to deport all of the illegals are being dishonest with yourselves and everyone else. I can see deporting those who sign up for welfare benefits, felons, and other undesirables but trying to deport those who have assimilated into our society in all respects would not be supported by most citizens of this country. I know there are those of you who are bigots, racists, and idiots who will never be dissuaded in your stance but what you want to happen will never happen. I agree that we must close our borders and stop the flow now but there is limit to what can be done with those here now. Say what you want and call me whatever you but I am right on this.

“racist”, “bigots” etc. Man, you might as well be reading from a DNC talking points paper. I’m Hispanic and I want these people deported. Want to know how you do it? Make it mandatory for businesses to make sure they are hiring LEGAL workers. Impose penalties on businesses that hire illegals. Same thing for government programs, schools, etc. Let States like Arizona get involved with enforcing the laws and making their own rules. Enforce the laws already on the books. What happens next? Most of them will self-deport.

The "deport them all crowd" doesn't want to hear this. You are leaving out the part about most of these people doing their best to stay under the radar. What do you think will happen when the government is actively rounding them up, and legal members of their communities are doing everthing they can to help them stay hidden? I predict a "peaceful resistance" movement where legal citizens allow themselves to be persued just to tie up resources. Certainly there will be tens of millions of court cases. Any deportation plan is pure fantasy and nothing more. So the question remains: What do we do with these people. So far Gingrich's is the only honest idea on the table.

His opponents are content to smear him with buzzwords and scare tatics. The EXACT same behavior from the left has given us the current Social Security crisis.

So, if we can't deport them, we should give them som form of legality? BTW, I agree with you that we can't round up 10-12 million illegals, at least not reasonably or efficiently.

My answer would be to cut off the path to work and public assistance. No E-verify, no work. No E-Verify, no public assistance. It wouldn't be perfect, but it would go a long way to cause large numbers to self deport.

There are a clot of people here, and several posting on this thread, who clearly want the GOP to commit political suicide by mass arrests, roundups and deportation of millions of illegals.

Just picture the evening news features of American police and troops cramming families including Mexican women and children into boxcars headed south of the border. They can make jokes about "the lamentations of their women," with a chuckle, as the wailing is shut off by the slamming of boxcar doors.

This is America, Anti-Newtie-style. They never say how they would do this without popular unrest and resistance. Imagine Detroit riots--Watts-- times ten--times a hundred.

Maybe they could study the Germans' methods. They had a similar program for purifying their population back in the day, I hear it was quite efficient.

Yes, I would be pleased if we did in fact start with:

A.) Deporting recent comers.
B.) Deporting those with no job and no kids.
C.) Tracking down every expired Visa.

According to at least one organization reference by Heritage, these moves alone would expel just over 50% of them.

I’ll take that over chest-thumping ANY day.

First of all, Jukeman, I take offense to your characterization of fellow freepers who want to simply deport as "bigots, racists, and idiots".. shame on you.

That said, I tend to support Newts kind of idea, always have really, I don't believe it is feasible, practically and morally, to simply round em all up and deport them. Ultimately, there is enough of the American Public that would view that with much distaste. Mass deportations are NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN. It is a pipe dream. Therefore, there has to be some kind of compromise that does the best we can otherwise.

“Any of you people who say it would be possible to deport all of the illegals are being dishonest with yourselves and everyone else.”

Their home countries did it.

“I can see deporting those who sign up for welfare benefits, felons, and other undesirables but trying to deport those who have assimilated into our society in all respects would not be supported by most citizens of this country.”

Rape your daughter long enough and he becomes family, huh?

” I know there are those of you who are bigots, racists, and idiots”

Straight from the book, “How to win friends and influence people” I am sure.

“I agree that we must close our borders and stop the flow now

At least you love the nation enough to meet us partway.

“but there is limit to what can be done with those here now.”

“We do not choose to go to the moon because it is easy, we choose to go to the moon because it is hard”....well not you but other Americans are made of sterner stuff.

“call me whatever you but I am right on this.

Okay. You are an illegal alien loving coward.

To some I might be a bigot, racist, and idiot. However, to many who view this illegal immigration as a cancer within our society such name calling goes both ways and does not come close to relieving the social problem and costs for legal citizens. I believe the first responsible move is to give wide circulation that illegals and families are subject to immediate enforcement action. The next step is to take enforcement action with wide public circulation against all illegals found. This will show serious intent that will have a chilling effect on not only those who would be illegal but also on long time illegals. This could well be a long term effort. Another step is to to have in place a payback-stay or go back law. I believe that any illegal person who commits to active USA military service should be given a ‘stay’ choice or for public benefit if so chosen. The government of the illegal must be under some kind of enforceable sanction to recover costs or stop it’s citizens from using illegal entry into the USA. Obviously there are other elements for a complete and effective program but the main thrust is to let people who come here illegally know that time does not wash away their illegal act for themselves or their family.

Yes you are right about this Jukeman.

The outcry from some who want those who have made a real life here for many years deported in entire will never happen...and thus is why their outcry and opposition to Newt's plan is so very much opposed by them.

What we are witnessing on these threads is the agony of peoples hearts and minds stuggling to grasp what they simply cannot grasp as reality....and the loss of what never will be as they hoped and believed was possible.

We will see the deportation of the undesirables no doubt.....and fair they should return to their own country. But we will never see those who have settled here being deported...it isn't going to happen. The most we can expect is what Newt's plan calls for......

...their choice will be to become "legal" without voting rights and other "perks" they believe they are entititled to....or they go home and file for legal immigration according to the laws in place. Some of the outcry we can expect to hear will be strong of course, especially because many believe that the US IS Mexicos regardless of how you argue the facts. They "believe" they have a right to be in "their own country here" and nothing we say will alter that mentality. Others will be grateful they can remain and won't care one way or another if they vote or not.

The greatest opposition will be the democrates who would see 'their hold on the Hispanic vote would be broken'....and that they will fight every inch of the way.
