Moscow is seeking to block Islamist Turkey, which is also a NATO member. The exercises with Israel are interesting which tells us what the Kremlin is doing in the eastern Mediterranean.

Russia, Israel and Greek Cyprus seem to be in agreement on Eastern Mediterranean energy exploration. Could this be the basis of an alliance against Turkey; and to a lesser extent, give the US a cold dose of reality if there are scenes of Russian and Israeli ships in joint maneuvers?

Don't suppose the muslim brotherhood wants to take over all the middle east energy resources to gain the wealth of the world?

The Islamists are supported by Arab oil money. Anything which gives Europe some degree of true energy independence from Islamic oil supplies reduces Islam’s power and influence.

I just saw on the news a few hours ago that the US Navy is diverting the
George H.W. Bush to the Eastern Med. She had been heading home after a five-month combat tour in the Arabian Sea, but will now redeploy off the Syrian coast.
Things could get interesting in a hurry. Does anyone know how long it has been since the US and Russia had carriers in close proximity during a crisis situation? Or is this the first time?

The Russian Admiral Kuznetzov and the American George H.W. Bush are both in the Eastern Med and Syria is threatening to boil over. Have American and Russian carriers ever been in close proximity during a crisis situation? The only possibility I can think of might be Kosovo. Do you know where the Kuznetzov was at the time?

We buy lots of Arab oil and make the Arabs rich so they can support their terrorists so we are supporting our worst enemies. If the Muslim brotherhood locked up the oil supplies form Lybia, Iran, Iraq, Syria, and took over the oil reserves of Israel we would have to learn to speak Farsi and read the koran and obey Sharia law.

I don’t think the Russians operated carriers during the cold war. At least I don’t recall reading about any. Might have had one or two that they kept close to home or for training.

They had four Kiev-class jumpjet carriers that started entering service starting in 1975. Two are museums in China, one was scrapped in South Korea, and the fourth has been sold to India, was converted into a conventional carrier, and is currently undergoing trials before entering service next year.

Anyone remember the quote hunt for red october where sen. Thompson played the admiral and the fighter crashes on the flight deck?

Defenseless except for a carrier task force that LBJ ordered to recall its strike aircraft, on crass political grounds.
