MOSCOW — President Dmitry Medvedev said Wednesday that Russia will target the American missile defense system in Europe with its own missiles if Moscow cannot reach an agreement with Washington and NATO on how the system will be built and operated.

Medvedev said time hasn’t run out for an agreement, but he accused the United States of failing to take into account Russian concerns.

Russia will deploy new missiles aimed at U.S. missile defense sites in Europe if Washington goes ahead with the planned shield despite Russia's concerns, President Dmitry Medvedev said Wednesday. (Nov. 23)

His declaration, in a televised address, comes a year after he met with the heads of NATO states in Lisbon and said Russia was willing to consider joining in on missile defense, if it could be included as an equal partner.

It plays to the GOP and foreign policy tough talk. Obama’s State Dept. has made a hash of foreign policy. I mean this President’s got more than one Achilles’ heel.

At what point do the former Soviet satellites become independent states? Let’s stop pretending that Russia’s on the verge of a comeback. Once commodities pop she’s in a barrel.

Why are the Russians so worried about a defense
system that the liberals have been saying for
years cannot possibly work?

Are you aware of how many nukes the Russians still have?

Let's see. A hundered kiloton warhead on NYC, Chicago, Dallas Ft Worth, Los Angeles, Silicon Valley, a couple of major oil refineries and natural gas distribution nodes oh and the proverbial high altitude EMP shot over the US. I think I am up to ten. Ten weapons and they have destroyed our economy and we and the Russians agreed to 1500 strategic warheads. And if they are really smart they will leave DC unscathed to make sure we never recover.

This is insanity. When you talk about nuclear war there are no winners. The only question is how many losers are their going to be.

He must really be desperate to drum up support among his own people if he's bothering with rattling the saber over something he knows is not a threat to Russia. Especially since it's unlikely to ever get built. We don't need to be defending Europe anymore and can't afford it, and Europe won't sacrifice any of it's social welfare to pay for it.

It's times like this that we could use another George Patton, or someone with an Andrew Jackson like character

“...The Russkies (and everyone else) know what a sap Hussein is...”

Why assume “sap” and not “Useful Idiot”...or “Fellow Traveler”? Or Apparatchniki? Or Comrade?

Based on what he’s done so far, he’s already on “their” ideological side, ultimately; trying to take us down the same failed, horrific trail as the Soviets and every other communist sh*thole...

“How does one take out a missile defense system with a missile?”

You use an Arab guy in a 1981 Toyota pickup to do it.

"The Russians are already short on missiles. They aren't able to produce enough to make up for loss due to age."

VERY informative post! I was wondering what ticked the Ruskies off so bad. They, and their allies will be badly hamstrung by an advanced missile defense in Europe. It puts a big damper on Putin's aspiration of putting the empire back together and they'll have to compete on the global stage based on the merits of their products versus threats of annihilate.
