Mercy is for suckers. It is killing this country and making us weak. Man up, and get the parasites the hell out of the USA.

I for one do not consider the children American citizens.Their parents are mexican citizens and not subject to the juristictions thereof.that also makes their children mexican citizens in my eyes.

Damn sad to realize that so many conservatives have drunk the illegal kool-aid! They can rationalize the invasion and destruction to America as “being compassionate”.

Also back then, they had to pay their own way or die. There were no large scale freebies such as now.

Not only did Perry do nothing like the AZ and AL bills, he’s specifcally opposed them as “not being right for Texas.” I live here, he is NOT the man you want running the US unless you have stock in the companies who will be buying his decisions.

And TOO MANY Americans don’t know the truth about how they live.

They can’t imagine illegal people living within America and using their own cultural system that keeps them from assimilation.

Too many Americans think back to Great-Grandma and how her family struggled to get here, broke their backs to earn a living legally and became American citizens. They think of Great-Grandma instead of the illegal standing next to them at the grocery store.

He’s too poor and dirty to look at. It’s embarrassing. His motives “might be good and pure”, right?

Not on your life.

He's completely done for me now. I put Gingrich in the same category as Romney, and Perry now. I was hoping Gingrich didn't do something this stupid, but what did we think we were going to get with a establishment career politician? The same career politician, do nothing, pandering stance we have gotten for decades, and is a part of the establishment. Considering we have candidates who take illegal immigration serious like Herman Cain, and Michelle Bachmann there is no excuse for us to nominate any of these losers who are nothing different. Gringrich just let everyone know he will stick to the status qua, and ignore the issue completely. It should destroy his primary campaign the same as it did Perry's. I won't vote for even if it's against Obama, because I'm not going to accept the establishment GOP’s stance of being soft on illegal immigration, when it's a bigger threat to bringing down our nation than Iran by a huge margin.

I think Newt was certainly courageous bringing this to the forefront....not to mention it will be surely discussed at tables over the holdiay and few watching the media’s spin on TV. So the timing was good despite some thinking he’s for amnesty style appraoches.

If he weathers the backlash from this I have no doubt he’ll take the Presidency. If he doesn’t and goes down then better now than later.

It already destroyed Perry as a candidate, and should have the same affect on Gingrich. It made him a candidate I can't even support if he won the nomination the same as Romney, and Perry. This is too serious, and he just uses the liberal establishment GOP stance that's been rejected, because he favors illegals over U.S. citizens. It just a pandering stance that he either believes in, or is just too afraid to take on, and both are equally bad. Conservatives will not accept this crap again in this election. There are more than one Conservative candidates who actually take this issue serious, and it's our own fault if we end up with an unelectable pro-illegal immigration candidate.

folks are looking to bludgeon Newt, so don’t expect much thoughtful debate.

I agree...so you have to wade thru the snarky comments before you can see where the issues might be from his plan. Even Newt has said not everything will work and why the committee to spot that when it becomes apparent something isn't going to work so they change the trajectory or scrub it altogether.

Newt also made it clear this was going to take time and that the people needed to be involved in it as well. It'll be interesting to see now how this flies with the media stroking all the jabs it can from this debate.

I don't think any candidate anticipates the power of the punches which comes once the media decides to fire their cannons.

For that matter FR has smoke filled rooms at everythread!

Indeed.....says so much and worth the read...thanks Untwist

“Newt is being a realist. He also said that there are millions in the US that would have to go.

Better realize that as a country the immigration and border enforcement crisis goes back many years and over numerous administrations of both parties. He is taking a rational approach of separating those who have been productive and set roots with lifestyles that are compatible with our values as Americans over years from those who come to abuse our system, or worse, commit crimes.

Gingrich is not taking the bait of those (including some on Free Republic) who are just dying to reinforce the false myth that Republicans are racists and separatists. He is creating opportunities for rational alliances with many Latins who want to and may vote Republican. We can win and make real progress, and not throw away our chances to win Florida, which for sure we will lose if he throws meaningless, unrealistic red meat for some to lose the support of many others.

Newt has more brains than most on practical approaches to solving very serious problems and I support him.

Anybody who believes that all we need is to elect a president who promises to come in and simply round up 10 - 15 million people, verify their status and ship them out and we go back to the good old days just like that, needs to think. It ain’t gonna happen like that. Now, if you recognize that the Spanish-speaking people have for the most part a great family culture, are excellent workers and are strong church-goers, you see that there are many points of commonality with maintstream conservatives.

Guess what, they detest Obama, too. They detest the failure to defend the border, too. They hate crime, too. They hate the low-lifes, too. They know that when a person with a Spanish-sounding name is arrested for a crime, there are millions of Anglos ready to paint the entire community with the same, bigoted brush. Like it or not, some of the people on this forum do that, too. Think before you judge Newt on this. He is taking the smart path.”

The majority of real AMERICANS, who don’t sit down to pee, want

Well unfortunately what they 'want' and what is granted are two different things altogether. There will be compromises like it or not..it's how thing do work. But in order to change the tide you have to have a plan....who does?

Bachmann is good on illegal immigration, and I would support her if she won the nomination, but I don't think you can say Herman Cain is bad on this issue. Romney, Perry, and now Gingrich have showed their stances on the issue, and I won't even vote for them against Obama if it comes down to that.

I want our borders secured before we start talking about what to do with the ones already here. Cain has a record of talking tough on the issue of illegal immigration, and actually taking it serious. It's just like his border fence “joke”, showed me he was serious about the issue even if he hadn't thought about the exact detail of getting the issue resolved. He's said he would be giving Arizona, and Alabama a medal for their anti-illegal immigration laws instead of suing them. Can you really imagine Romney, Perry, or Gingrich even saying that? Sheriff Joe Arpaio said he believed Cain would do something serious about the border. Cain also got the endorsement of former Conservative Congressman Tom Tancredo, who is known for his staunch anti-illegal immigration stances.

While I agree that Bachmann has it right on illegal immigration, I also think Cain is in that same category. That's why we have no excuse to nominate a candidate who's bad on this issue when we have at least two Conservatives who are right on this issue. While some people might say it's a bad strategic idea I wouldn't mind seeing them on the same ticket. I also think Cain should bring up the illegal immigration issue when he's being attacked for his foreign policy experience. He's right on the most important foreign policy issue that we're facing, and that dwarfs anything the others have done who are on the wrong side of illegal immigration. He could ask some tough questions when being attacked on this issue, considering he is among the very few who is thinking like the vast majority of U.S. citizens when it comes to this issues.
