I know on here you have a few libertarians who think morality and politics can be isolated from each other...and others, who with the culture, have drifted into accepting homosexuality...but that's not the mainstream here in FR, and that's certainly not J. Robinson.
One can err about this complex matter by being flippant, or by being pompously pontificatory. The high emotional feeling inspired by the topic makes calm reasoning difficult.
David Brooks actually said something very accurate here. People are willing to accept pedophilia and just about any other immorality because they have been told that one cannot "impose" objective standards of morality on other people in society and that there is no longer any common moral ground. It's all subjective and the only thing that matters is how the individual committing a particular act "feels" about it. If it's good with him, who are we to criticize?
The progressive plan has always been to do away with objective morality and replace it with legality. In other words, whatever the state legalizes is ok. And that's why these gay groups and others have been so aggressively working to rewrite the law (for example, "gay marriage," anti-discrimination laws, etc.) and you will see an increasing amount of activity by the pro-pedophile groups to do the same. And sadly, I think they'll succeed, unless we have some major changes soon.
