Newt Gingrich was a lobbyist, plain and simple
Washington Examiner ^ | 112011 | Tim Carney

When Newt Gingrich says he never lobbied, he's not telling the truth.

When he was a paid consultant for the drug-industry's lobby group, Gingrich worked hard to persuade Republican congressmen to vote for the Medicare drug subsidy that the industry favored. To deny Gingrich was a lobbyist requires an Obama-like word parsing over who is and who isn't a lobbyist.

Gingrich stated last week on Fox News, "I do no lobbying of any kind. I never have. A very important point to make. I have never done lobbying of any kind."

But the facts contradict that claim.

First of all, we know that Gingrich has been paid by drug companies and by the drug lobby, notably during the Medicare drug debate. A former employee of the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America, (the main industry lobby) told me Gingrich was being paid by someone in the industry at the time. A spokeswoman for Gingrich's health care consulting firm, Center for Health Transformation, told me that drug companies have been CHT clients.

From wikipedia: United States Department of Education
For the earlier incarnation with the same name, established in 1867, see National Bureau of Education.

A few years prior to Carter. Just for the record, I don’t think government at any level should be involved in education.

And I, much like God, (I suspect) have forgiven Newt for all of his sins. It has not been easy.

All these DC Hacks know that this country is in a death spiral.

They are looting our country, so when the crap hits the fan, they will be the protected class, with the means to survive, while the rest of us are dumpster diving to survive.

That makes him part of the problem.

So how can he be the “solution”

He can’t

you say “Mitt would not attack Newt they are twins”

It was Cain that supported Romney last time around...and he likely got in the race this time to shill for Romney. he NEVER expected - and has said so - to gain such ground.

There are very specific legal definitions for “lobbying” — in the “Honest Leadership and Open Government Act”, amongst others. If Newt was not considered a lobbyist, under such legislation, then he was telling the truth. If he were not in compliance of the legislation, he would have been subject to criminal charges. It seems reasonable to conclude that Newt was telling the truth.

For those, who would object that this is hiding behind legalisms, or semantics — consider that a very broad definition of “lobbyist” would encompass everyone, who has ever posted a political comment on FR. Clearly, that would be absurd. There has to be a reasonable definition, and the best available is in the legislation.

by President Jimmy Carter on October 17, 1979, it began operating on May 16, 1980.[2]

I didn’t say Gingrich signed it into law! Newt was in Congress. The bill was passed in Congress. THEN Carter signed it into law.

Are you a Romney supporter in disguise?

'lot of 'em in here.

Never honest enough to say who their horse in the race is - how they cold best beat obummer and how they could hit the ground running to save this country.

WE don't have time for someone to find advisers and get up to speed.

It's too late to get up to speed after you've gone over the cliff.

On Sep 27, 1979 The U.S. House voted 215-201 to establish the Department of Education as a cabinet-level department. Only 29 RINOs voted "Aye". Had just 8 of those Republicans voted it down, it would have failed.

Rep. Newton Gingrich (R-GA-6) was one of those 29 RINOs - voting AYE to rubber stamp Jimmy Carter's Department of Education.

Newt Gingrich was a big government RINO then. He is a one-world government RINO now. He is a liar and a fraud. But he sure is one smooth talker. Didn't America just elect one of those in 2008?
