Evitable (Romney is not "inevitable")
Weekly Standard ^ | Nov 18, 2011 | Bill Kristol

Posted on 11/19/2011 5:40:36 PM PST by Innovative

Should Mitt Romney be the nominee of the Republican party for president in 2012? Perhaps. Should voters support him because he's the "inevitable" nominee? No.

For one thing, his nomination is evitable - perhaps all too evitable (see below). For another, we are a proud, self-governing people. We're sometimes even an obstreperous bunch—and a good thing it is for the cause of liberty. We often balk at yielding meekly to claims of inevitability. Here in America, we the people rule by electing. We don't bow to those anointed by pundits.

But really, you might ask - isn't Romney inevitable? And the answer is, really, no.

I’ve been saying he was evitable for months. Stuck at his 25.

Romney is definitely not my choice. And although I have never worked in a campaign, I would work tirelessly against any third party spoiler, no more Perot's.

The slogan, “anyone but Obama” still holds for me

Romney cannot win.

His lack of character and integrity have caused him to rot from the inside, out.

Romney cannot win.

Shout it from the mountain top! He can't break 25% among pubbies now. If he gets the nomination by attrition it'll be McCain redux.

Mitt = Obama

It’s very likely mitt would take more liberal votes from obama than he would take from a third party conservative...

Before I vote for Romney, I will write in Sarah. I cannot in good conscience vote for the establishment RINO.

"...and the cowardly conservatives call for surrenders."

Huh? WTF are you saying...that conservatives are "surrendering" to the Romney camp? I hope you're not, 'cause smoking crack will kill you.

Of course, proper punctuation and capitalization would help make your point a little more clear.

Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!

The title is ironic and humorous.

It reminds me of that Palin “ineluctable” poster, where she was supposed to look like the Commander in Chief. (rolling my eyes)

Kristol is hedging his bets. He must be getting serious heat from people who have power and do not like Romney. Either that or the internals show Romney in trouble and Kristol wants to save the viability of his milquetoast magazine.

But make no mistake, Kristol is totally in the bag for Romney.

“If he gets the nomination by attrition it’ll be McCain redux.”

I doubt very much that Romney will do as well as McCain.

If Romney is the GOP empty suit this time, he could well place third if for instance Trump entered the race. I would cheerfully vote for Mark Levin’s famous empty orange juice can over Obama or Romney, as the red koolaid is no better than the blue koolaid.

Kristol epitomizes the weakly standard GOP of the past twenty years.

No, he’s probably not in the bag for Romney. Mitt Romney has been running for years now, ever since the last election and, as another Freeper pointed out, at least from 2006.

Romney has his personal fortune and since he “declared” his candidacy years ago, he has been able to collect big bucks without any competitors. And because he’s essentially the Mormon version of Obama, the press is simply ignoring him, not attacking or examining him, and relying on the fact that few GOPers and even fewer independents will vote for him. This means that their baby, Obama, will be reelected by a landslide.

You may not agree with Kristol on a lot of things, and neither do I, but many of his positions actually are conservative, and I think he and many “moderate” conservatives were probably claimed by Romney as his own - but are now beginning to rebel.

As it says in the Gospels, via Isaiah, “he shall not quench the smoking flax...” That is, don’t stamp out people who are coming to a realization because they’re not as “perfect” as you are.

What a pretentious and arrogant thing for you to write to me. You are totally out of line with your holier than thou lecture. Regarding Kristol, I point you to his multiple statements on Fox News wherein he has stated that Romney is going to be the nominee. I stand by my statement based upon his multiple proclamations as such.

Let he who is without sin... judge not... and I can suggest a very snug place you can pound your bible there Sparky.

Get off your high horse there pastor. All you’re doing is insulting decent people and making yourself look foolish.
