A settlement amount of $1.875 million was reached between the Miami-Dade County School Board and the family of a teen who was stabbed to death while at Coral Gables High School, according to the law firm representing the family.
Andy Rodriguez, 19, faces life in prison after being found guilty on Aug. 2 of second-degree murder in the September 2009 death of 17-year-old Juan Carlos Rivera.

One more caveat: the school district is apparently only authorized to approve a payout of $700K. The rest of the settlement has to be approved by the state legislature.
I hope my fellow Florida FReepers will join me in urging our Republican legislators to say NO to using more taxpayer dollars for this nonsense.
If you’re going to get murdered, get murdered in a high school so your relatives can sue the school and cash in.
