"How can a culture fall so far so quickly?"

By turning its back on Jesus.

Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!

Not just health care. I was a supervisor at a semiconductor plant and was trained to not ask questions when I found someone high on drugs or alcohol.

If they say the magic words “I need help”, I could not fire them. H.R. would send them to rehab and hold their job.

Always try to fire them before they say the magic words.

“Her future employment prospects may be limited to Wendy’s (though perhaps not the one where she was found passed out).”

I doubt it; fast-food places have no use for American workers, regardless of drug history, qualifications, or anything else, really...

“How can a culture fall so far so quickly?”

By refusing to identify itself as a culture anymore, and demonizing those who would hold it up as a beacon for the world to emulate. I’m not Protestant, but the fact is that the WASP culture made this country what is was; not perfect, but it was still the best game in town.

Most nurses I know who smoke pot speak pretty freely about it - even at work.

That's what I've heard.

happened to be at a nurse practice meeting a few weeks ago, with state officials there...I asked why these drug users are not immediately fired, seeing as how they are stealing as well as using...

"its a sickness" basically....

I cry BS.....its a choice...

for the record, in hospitals my anecdotal opinion is there is only a very rare instance where a nures would take drugs from the supply...nurse are mostly like me...suspicious and indignant over things like this...

I'd like to know about this woman... people throw around the word "nurse" all the time when they are actually aides or medical assistances...and calling yourself a "nurse" in my state when you are not is actually illegal....

I guess in a Liberaltarian world she’d be woken up and sold coffee and asked if she can afford a taxi home, or at least somewhere else but there.

In the real world people have empathy for her

How do you propose we act on this empathy - by sending her to prison?

But, but, drug abuse is a victimless crime! /s

Minor children are often victimized by their parents' drug abuse - as by their alcohol abuse. Is the answer "lock 'em up" in the former case yet not the latter - and if so, why?
