Not surprising. Iran has had claims over Bahrain for decades, predating the Revolution. They tried to pull off a coup in the early 80s to install a Khomeini style theocracy in Bahrain that failed.

Notice how Al-Arabiya has been harshly critical of the protestors in Bahrain, while Iran’s Al-Alam is heralding them as wonderful.

If you will recall, Saudi Arabia sent in tanks and infantry to assist Bahrein when it was under attack during the “Arab Spring.” Europe stongly opposed the Saudi move, as did most of the African nations, and arms were embargoed to Saudi Arabia. The Saudis, po’d beyond belief, cancelled European access to military contracts then under consideration. The USA, which only barely managed to muzzle Hillary Clinton, was the beneficiary by more than $20 billion in contracts.
