‘Conservative’ case for Mitt Romney no case at all

Because elections are typically decided by a few percentage points, and a critical mass of gun owners simply will not hold their noses and vote for the guy. In spite of the cajoling, in spite of having future Supreme Court nominees held over our heads, in spite of accusations that those who refuse to chip in to procure the campaign whore du jour being pimped by devoid- of- principle party apologists will bear responsibility for whatever politically transmitted disease follows.

Page is down.

I don’t think Romney has core supporters. I’m hard pressed to find one person on Free Republic who actually likes him.

Yep.

I read that, and my only thought is that it was unfair to tar George Will as anti-gun because of something he wrote 20 years ago, when more recent writings clearly indicate that his opinion has changed significantly since then.

McCain lost.

Dole lost.

G.H.W. Bush lost.

Romney will lose. Or if he wins, he’ll screw things up as badly as Obama has been.

People are fed up with the lot of them. People hate the Dems, and they hate the Repubs too.

The voters throw the bums out, and the new bums are convinced that the voters like them, so they act just like the old bums, and then they’re thrown out next.

One of these days a coalition will form in one of the Parties that understands that the people want the government to do what it should be doing better, and doing everything else not at all.

I thought I was seeing the beginnings of that, this year. Apparently not.

I am fed up with the lot of ‘em. I want massive change, big reforms. I want the federal government scaled way back. I want the tax code overhauled, simplified, where everyone contributes and nobody has to keep absurd records or tell the government if they are married, how many kids they have, if they own a home etc etc.

Cain is the only guy pushing a big ‘bold’ change. Its unfortunate that none of the others figured out what he knew. People are tired of business as usual and they don’t want change around the edges. I hope Cain’s position in the polls bodes well for the future, he has done so well in the polls future candidates may do well pushing serious reforms. The political machine may or may not destroy his chances, and I certainly understand the fear of having political novice in office, but at this point I really don’t think that is a negative. I’ve had it with the pork, the trough that is DC. Enough! Change it now. I don’t want tinkering. I want an overhaul.

I'm sure he does. I think the guy may be on vacation this week though.

In 2008, open primaries and the One Party Press made McCain, the weakest candidate and worst RINO, the Repub candidate. It worked well.

Why discard a winning methodology?

So, in a repeat of 2008, open primaries and the One Party Press will make Romney the RINO, the Repub candidate so to insure many Repubs stay home and watch TV (and few independents get motivated). So to get Obaba the USA-Destroyer, re-elected.

Since the 2008 election the idiots, illegals, dead folks and dogs and cats and horses, and imaginary who pass for voters will get Romney RINO the Repub candidate, courtesy of vote fraud and open primaries.

The USA now mostly run by the corrupt. The current Administration is just another corrupt regime screwing our friends and helping our enemies.

The only nit I have to pick with your post is that the voters haven't ever thrown the first set of bums out. We keep proving that WE are the insane ones by electing the same bums and expecting a different result!!

Last year was the first time that a group of incumbents got tossed on their butts and replaced with Tea Partiers whom the establishment GOP have tried to derail amd undermine. If there is no repetition next year with a massive tossing of incuments into the street, it will prove that the status quo is once again in control!

I am very active with golf and play approximately three rounds per week with a variety of individuals. The majority favor Mitt Romney. Most are of the opinion Herman Cain lacks experience. I do not hear negative comments about Herman Cain. Of course the Liberals still back Obama and expound on his intelligence, and how he is taking out all of the terrorist. I try to remind them the men and women serving in the Military are doing a exemplary job. Obama did nothing.

Romney does have core supporters, but it’s no accident that you won’t find them on FR. The vocal ones have thankfully been purged, and are haunting other forums trying to drum up support for Mittens.

Nope. One of his core supporters is here on FR duty. On vacation from work, but not my post here.

If elected, Romney will be the second most “conservative” POTUS we’ve had in the last 100 years. Reagan obviously first. Then? Uh. GWB? TR? Mitt fits somewhere in between Ronny and the Bush Jr or Teddy reigns.

I live in Texas. I consider myself seriously right of center. Perry is a dolt. A local enigma. Cain just doesn’t have the balls to make the long trip.

After Mitt, Newt is the only other option I see. He was brilliant in the 1990s. He went rogue after leaving the SOH post. Spent many years in political and personal purgatory since.

If you can’t tell, I’m a sucker for the flawed personality protagonist. No human being is perfect. I despise anyone for trying to create or front a “perfect” candidate. I despise anyone for trying to act like the “perfect” candidate. I despise any supporter of any said political candidate for holding them up to God-like status.

In this, I’ve made my disgust with Palinistas and Perry-Krishnas equally known.

Flaws and lack of perfection are the norm in nature and life. That is not a bad thing. It’s a natural thing.

Learn to love, live, embrace, and improve upon that. I don’t blame anyone for not being the next Jesus. I do blame those who try to compel others into believing in a Jesus who does not exist.

Perry is a clown. He’s not coming back.

Cain is interesting but seemingly shallow and not one to win the months and states ahead.

I left Gingrich dead months ago..........but he’s doing some serious stuff. Some serious stuff.

Romney has the market on the moderate Dem/unaffiliated/Centrist/undecided voter pretty much cornered right now.

Squishy middle types are seeing a nice, safe palatable option in Romney as the Recession wears on.

You’re right, if the process repeats itself, we’ll be stuck with Romney. The conservative candidates in the race need to stop fighting each other and focus on Mitt or all is lost. I think they should arrange amongst themselves for the losing conservatives to drop out after the first few primaries and endorse the strongest one of them. That’s the best chance we have, one strong conservative vs. Romney, with Ron Paul wheezing along behind.

Which Mitt Romney? That's the problem. He talks a game, but all I can go by is what he did as governor. His record in Massachusetts was mediocre at best. Taxes went up. Gun grabs. Romney care. Fee increases. The guy is like Rick Snyder, my RINO governor who won because the conservatives split their votes in the primary. Snyder just raised my taxes and wants to raise them again.

As far as last 100 years, not even close. From 1912 onward, I'd put Harding, Coolidge, Reagan, both Bushes, and arguable Ford and Clinton's 2nd term ahead of Mitt. Speaking of Clinton, that's who Mitt reminds me of. A Panderer.

Cain's flawed, as is Newt, or Huntsman for that matter but I'll vote for them over Bill Clinton II. I don't mind flaws, but I need to know what I'm going to get. I have no tolerance these days for panderers, flip floppers, or those who give nothing but talking points without plans.

No way, no how, never! I will not ever vote for romney, obama’s mini me. Even if my mind weren’t made up to cast my vote for Cain, I would not vote for romney. And if for some reason that I can’t even imagine, romney were to win the primary, I will write in Herman Cain.
