Senate grills Holder on Fast and Furious gun-trafficking sting

Republican lawmakers want to know when the attorney general first learned of the program that allowed guns to go untracked into the hands of Mexican drug cartels. He says he acted responsibly.

Pressure piled on Atty. Gen. Eric H. Holder Jr. as he faced a barrage of questions Tuesday about his knowledge of a federal gun-trafficking sting that allowed more than 2,000 weapons to be sold illegally and why the Justice Department gave inaccurate information to Congress on its connection to the killing of a federal agent.

At a hearing of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Republican lawmakers quizzed Holder on when he first learned of Operation Fast and Furious, a now-defunct program aimed at tracking guns sold in the U.S. to Mexican drug cartels. They cited memos sent to Holder's office and emails showing that other top Justice Department officials had received at least partial briefings. They noted inaccurate statements Justice Department officials initially made to Congress.

"Who will be held accountable?" asked Sen. Charles E. Grassley of Iowa, the ranking Republican on the committee.

Although they had planned to follow the weapons to the cartels after their sale to "straw purchasers," agents with the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives lost track of many of the guns. Nearly 200 of them later showed up at crime scenes in Mexico. Two were recovered at the scene of the shooting of U.S. Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry in Arizona in December...

“Holder said. “It is not fair, however, to assume that the mistakes that happened in Fast and Furious directly led to the death of Agent Terry.”

I hope the NRA is awake and will make good use of this.

Holder, for perhaps the first time in his life, spoke the truth. The criminals would have had guns one way or another. Yet for almost 50 years Holder and his despicable ilk have done their best to overturn the 2nd amendment on the basis that legal ownership is directly responsible for the criminal use of guns.

When backed into the corner, the ultimate liar was forced to admit the truth. Criminals that WANT guns, will always GET guns. Disarming the American public is about enslaving the American public - and has never had anything to do with public safety.

The republicans asked him tough questions. I guess the SOCIALIST DEMOCRATS were cool with arming the drug cartels with 2,000 automatic weapons that would surley be used against us in the future. 2012 it’s payback time to boot these socialist democrats out on their idealogical rearends.

Who will be held accountable?

Yeah, right! In our communists controlled Administration, no one except maybe a few fall guys. Communists like shoving a few under the bus with it gets hot.

(Article) At a hearing of the Senate Judiciary Committee, .....

Why is Harry Reid's Senate leading on this?

They control process, they'll use process like John Dingell once said -- "I'll give you content, you give me process, and I'll screw you every time."

Where the hell is the House on this? Where's Issa? Where's Boehner?

Why is Harry Reid's Senate leading on this?

It's not. Sen. Patrick "Leaky" Leahy (D-Vt) shut down the Senate's Fast & Furious investigation some months ago. Grassley forced him to re-open it. This is probably the first testimony the Senate committee has heard.

Where the hell is the House on this? Where's Issa? Where's Boehner?

They've been on top of it for months. Holder testified to Issa's committee earlier this week.

Don't get all worked up about how the Republicans are "dropping the ball" when there's nothing to get worked up about. Try giving them some credit, instead, because there are now two committees working the Fast & Furious beat.
