*PING*, folks -- please *PING* whomever else might be interested.

You *know* some heads are going to roll in Israel's cybercommand.

Either that, or there are gonna be some discreet contacts made to U.S. "advisors"...

Hope this isn't Iran pounding its chest just yet.

NO cheers, unfortunately.

Thanks, NormsRevenge.

No statements of this nature can be taken at face value.

...not a cyberattack...

I suspect a cyberattck could look very much like this.

I think an attack would be less embarrassing than a technician tripping over the server's power cable.

Could this have something to do with the recent story that former left-wing military and intelligence chiefs deliberately leaked that story that Israel was about to attack Iran, in order to prevent anything of the kind from happening?

Maybe shutting them down until all the passwords can be changed and made safe?

Lots of possibilities, including states not usually obviously involved in the mid-East (one to the north of Vietnam has been selling a lot of equipment to Iran, and maybe has contracted other services.)

Could also be a defensive response to a probing attack. At some point the Iranians will need to make numerous tests of the symmetry and containment properties of their conventional high explosives. There are a number of ways those tests might be detected by us or by Israel, and Iran might be pushing around the edges to see if they can foul communications long enough to hide them.

Counterintelligence, false flag, is also a possibility.

The least likely explanation is the one actually given.

Many of Israel's official websites have gone down in what the government says is a broad technical malfunction. The sites include that of the Mossad and Shin Bet intelligence services, the military spokesman, the Interior Ministry and others.

I imagine a lot of people are hoping this has the obvious internal cause. I'm not that optimistic, but it would be nice. If it's external, I hope Israel learns more from defending against the attack than our enemies from launching the attack. If it really is a "broad technical malfunction", I hope those responsible lose their jobs and are blacklisted from that career. The free world can afford to lose the "leadership" we have in our White House for an extended period, even for the next year, which would be an improvement, but we cannot afford to have Mossad and Shin Bet go offline except by choice.
